Forgot to dampen before using gorilla glue.

Hey guys I am way behind the Gorilla Glue part of my project, but I forgot to dampen with water.  The only thing I used the glue for was mouting the 2x2 blocks to the inside of the cab to mount the monitor shelf.  Now I did use wood screws also.  It has had a TV in there for like 2-3 months and all seems okay.  You think it will be okay over time.

I question the long-term durability of Gorilla Glue, no matter whether you dampen the surfaces or not. Plus the stuff foams all over the place and creates a huge mess! I don't use anything but Titebond these days...

That said, if you've used a reasonably large screw you probably don't have anything to worry about.

I agree that gorilla glue is overrated and more importantly, overpriced. And as mentioned overmessy. ;)

If plain woodglue was used (I prefer the Titebond family of glues) and properly clamped, the bond would be stronger than the wood itself; meaning that if the joint were to fail, you'd see torn wood fibers, not a broken glue joint.

Titebond FTW.

There are four #8 wood screws in each mounting block as well so I think I will be okay.  I was just checking.  The rest of the cabinet is acutally pretty much done with glue from a hot glue gun or some elmer's wood glue.  But yes I use wood screws as well.

Ok, I will be the lone dissenter....for now.  I have used Gorilla Glue NUMEROUS times on things you would not even imagine you could use Gorilla glue on.  It has far exceeded my expectations.  I concur entirely that the stuff can make a mess, but once it hardens, you can just cut/scrape/sand off the excess. Again, this is just my opinion but I really like the stuff.

Where gorilla glue really shines is its ability to glue odd materials together. But then again so can epoxy...

But for wood or wood products I think any of the 3 titebonds will work fine. Much cheaper as well.
