Coin Mechs - Metal or Plastic?

Okay, I know it sounds trivial, but is there any distinct advantage between metal or plastic coin mechs?  I could envision metal as being more durable, but plastic easier to clean.  Getting ready to pick up a new set of mechs and was wondering if I should go with a particular type?

One word answer.... "NO"

we use both in a commercial environment..... they both work. In a domestic environment both of them will last you a lifetime.

Depends.  If you want to use different sized tokens and quarters then I would recommend an "Imonex" mech that can handle the size range that you want.

I've used both and hate the metal ones. The metal ones are
tougher to clean and are harder to eject coins than the plastic ones.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I have used both equally over the years, but my own preference is for metal. Here are some pros and cons:

PLASTIC

Pros:
Inexpensive
Cleans easily with soapy water
Canadian quarters won't jam it
Won't corrode in harsh or outdoor environments

Cons:
No or little adjustments can be done
Plastic cracks/fatigues easily
Can't use strong solvents to clean
Flimsy construction will not hold up to abuse/vandalism


METAL

Pros:
Lots of adjustments
Rugged and will take physical abuse
Good at rejecting slugs
Can be cleaned with strong solvents
Proven design has been around for decades
Available in many different denominations/configurations

Cons:
Expensive
Will corrode outdoors or near the ocean/salt spray
You'll need small straight slot screwdrivers to work on them
Will jam when a canadian quarter is put in
Gate and hinge needs lubrication
