NEED YOUR HELP: How do jukebox apps close from fullscreen mode?
« on: February 26, 2007, 09:33:51 am »
When a jukebox application starts and is placed into full screen mode (ie: takes up complete display screen), then how does the user exit the jukebox application?   I am assuming most jukebox applications allow for a mappable "exit" key press to occur which indicates the application should exit, but I was wondering if there was any other way jukebox applications offer to close the application.

Oh yeah .... if the jukebox application only offers exiting the application via a mappable keypress, then I would assume the application has some way to allow this mappable exit key to be activated/deactivate so it is not accidently pressed by people who do not have the right to decide to close the application ..... correct?

Anyway, just trying to figure out what existing jukebox software offers relating to exiting the application.  I do not want to install various jukebox software just to find out this information myself, so I was hoping people who already have jukebox software installed could quickly comment on this functionality for me ......

I have mine mapped as a "shift" function.
So you have to press RESET (shift) + 1 to exit it.
(this applies to the mapping on my particular juke setup)
I have all my admin functions this way, so the odds of it getting accidently pressed are very slim.
I'm using WinCab.
I've seen others do this as well with other software.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Are you saying that the "only way" to exit the WinCab jukebox application is to press a mappable "exit" key?   This is not a bad thing .... I just want to try to figure out whether applications offer multiple way of exiting .....

thanks for the input!

The only way to exit mine is from the options screen which you can set to be pin coded. There are 2 levels of pin access, and admin one where you can see everything and a delegate access where you can limit the screens they can see. The delegate acces is there to allow for resetting coin meters etc when the money is collected and the like.

I am also going to add a keyboard shortcut to shut down but i will also offer the option to pin code this so it can't be activated by a user.

My juke also offers the option to shutdown windows when it is powered off to preven people getting to thewindows interface and messing things up. This is usfull if you want to use your app as a shell.

Hope that is some help, if you fancy sending me a beta of your new app i would be keen to take a look sounds like you have added a fair bit to it.

Thanks for the information .....

As for my jukebox, I have been working full time on it for the past two months and a lot of stuff has been added and changed.  Thanks for offering to beta test, but I have been testing the heck out of it.  I think I will just announce the new release in this forum when it is ready.   Should not be too much longer.  I am currently working on making the application not as "Windowsy" looking.

If you do not mind me asking, perhaps you can tell me what is involved to allow an application to shutdown windows when the application is closed.   I am also assuming you also have an option to start the Jukebox application when the windows starts as well ....?   How do you do this?  You can PM me if you want to keep stuff privtae ..... or not .... if you really want to keep it private   :>)

PS:  Do you allow hiding the Windows splash screen when Windows starts up?

In My App, Arcade Music Box, I use Escape as a default button for a directly exist (and can save queue as well), but that key is remapple. Im dosent use any pincode, since it was created while have Mamewah in mind (so it should been existable by user, like MAME does).

In a dedicated jukebox cabinet, this exit should been hided in some form, like that way Barcrest did for his Freebox.

I use an ipac to send the esc code when I want to end the jbox program only.   Since the cab is a dedicated jbox I also use the power button which is extended to the back of the cab to shutdown windows and the computer.   This shuts down the programs which are running.

I noticed some app dosent use the close button in the windo. If you ask me they should ALLWAYS work. I hate when you cant close down with the normal close button.

Since I say that, when you are in fullscreen, you never see that button anyway! Hince it of course not work in that status.

Yes, when my app is in the traditional window's form then the close button on the window bar will still be present to allow people to have it function just like a Windows "window".  However, when the window is made fullscreen then the window bar disappears and no close button is visible anymore.  The user will need to press the exit key (which is configurable) to exit.

sound like good, it the best method.

You could maybe have some pincode protection, if you wich.

You can also map an area of the screen to be a hidden button to click on with the mouse or touchscreen.  As far as not allowing an unauthorized user to exit, the standard arcade-style solution would to be to put the mapped button behind the coin door.

WinCab will also exit if it receives an exit request from Windows.

BobA,  This is the same thing I'd like to accomplish.  What button do you have mapped on your ipac for esc?  and how did you accomplish this?
