Last year I discovered mame in all of it's godliness while looking for info
about my favorite arcade game "sinistar".
After a few unsucessful attempts at trying to get a sinistar, I downloaded mame
and started playing around with some games. After looking around for some more info
about mame, I came across a page with a tutorial on hacking psx pads into arcade controlls
which also led me to the dicovery of people who had built or converted arcade cabinets
that could be used with mame.
After a couple of weeks of non stop reasearching, I came to the conclusion that I wanted my own
mame cabinet. I don't have the space or woodworking skills to build my own from scratch, so I
decided that converting an existing cabinet would be my best choice.
After looking around at places that I would most likely find arcade machines,
I came across a non working coors light bowling in a generic cab at a pool hall about 20 blocks
from my house. I got in touch with the owner and got the bought the cab for 35.00 and
pulled it home with a dolly.
On the way home though, I hit a pothole, the cab fell over and broke a good sized chunk from the
top left hand corner near the marquee.
I've since converted the cab with a pc and later an xbox but have now setteled on converting
it into a neo geo mvs. I now have most of the hardware needed to do the conversion and
am ready to start reparing the missing chunk of mdf and painting the cabinet.
However, there is one issue that has been nagging me ever since I got the cab.
I can't remove the marquee retainers which makes it impossible to properly repair the cabinet
or to even change the marquee. I've removed two screws holding the bottom retainer in place.
The retainer can wiggle up and down without the screws but I can't get it to come out.
Since the cabinet has no back door like most other cabinets, I've even climbed inside to see
If there might be anything that might be keeping it from being removed and so far I'm stumped,
so I've come here seeking guidence.
this is a picture of the cab I have.

This isn't mine, but it is the same one

I haven't found any info on who built this cab other that a sticker on the inside that
says "plateau inc." along with a date of 4-11-90 which I am assuming is when this cab was built.
Ther was a lock on the top of the cab close to the front of the cab that I had drilled out since
I didn't have keys for it. I had assumed that the top somehow opened to allow the removal of
the marquee and to change the florescent tube when it burned out, but I had assumed wrong.
My second guess it that the lock is there just to hold the marquee in place, but I still can't remove
the marquee even though the lock is gone.
So does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remove it?
I've exersized a good amount of force on it, but I don't wan't to cause any mor damage to the cab.
Also, does anyone know anything about this cab?
