Ok i finally figured out everything about my other question on taking a PC to TV and i know everything i think i need to know about that. :-) Thanks a lot for everyone who helped me on that! As for my next step im trying to figure out what card will be the best for my system. I was going to use an older PC for the project cause it was free. it will be a Hewett Packard Hp Pavilion 533W here are the specs for it

CPU= Intel(R) Celeron (R) CPU 2.00GHz pentium 4 CPU speed = 2.0GHz RAM = 512mb Operating system = windows xp home edition (build 2600) Video Card = Intel(R) 82845G/GL Graphics Graphics Controller = Intel(R) 82845G/GL chip Video card driver= directX 9 driver number is 6.13.1.3119 Sound Card = Realtek AC' 97 Audio Hard drive = 60 GB CD= COMBI RW 16X10/DVD

Now i was bummed to find out that it doesnt have an AGP slot, and i was wondering if i need that or what. I dont know anything abot video cards etc, but in my toher post everyone told me i need to get a Card that gonna run S video out of it so i can connect the PC to my flat screen TV (which is how i wanna do this) Now is there any other solution for this besides having a VGA slot?

I basiocally want to be able to run almost all the great arcade games like TMNT, x men 4 player, Simpsons, street fighter, mortal kombat etc. Does anyone have any links to sites, or auctions i should check out that will work for what i want to do.

I also would really like to run games like Marvl VS capcom, and i was wondering what kind of card i would need to be able to run more advanced games like that as well.

Any help would be hugely appreciated thanks!

I think you are better cutting your losses and buying a cheap mobo with an AGP slot. take the chip and ram and stuff off the old one and use them on the new mobo
If it ain't broke give it to me...i'll soon fix that

The question is how much you are willing to spend on your setup.

I don't think there is sense to part your older computer, just sell it on ebay or craigslist and use the money for something newer with APG slot or even PCI Express.  For Mame you can use 2.4 GHz or up single core cpu (preferrably with 800 FSB or at least 533, I've seen them selling on Ebay for about $30-40).  You can find used on these same websites pretty cheap.

The simple way would be to use a video card for PCI slot.  It's been discussed here in the last couple of days.

Check newegg.com to see what's available pricewise selling new and then go from there for used stuff, so you don't get ripped.

ps.  If you go the PCI video card route, remember to disable the onboard video in bios, so your pci card is primary.  When you get the card, get the latest drivers from manufacturer's website.

I would recommend to have 512 MB of ram (or more, ram is getting cheap these days).  Make sure that the ram you are getting is optimal for your motherboard, so it doesn't become major bottleneck.  I would recommend keeping a backup of all your important files, be it on a secondary hard drive or dvdr.  Also, to have a quieter computer, I would go with aftermarket cpu cooler (don't forget to put thermal paste in between, Arctic Silver is one of the good ones).

Some of the coolers that come to mind are from Thermaltake, Zalman, Arctic Cooling and Scythe (my favorite Scythe Ninja Plus).  Add to this nice and quiet Seasonic power supply and you are in business.  Computer case ... well, I can go for hours on this, but that all depends on the amount of money you want to spend on this (that you haven't told us about to make it easier).  All I can tell you that it's worth it in the long term, as you can upgrade the mobo later on with another cpu and memory and perhaps video card while all other components can be reused, including the cpu cooler.  For added quietness get an older video card that has no fan, just a heatsink or add aftermarket video card cooler with larger fan.

You did say this pc was one of the Dell server pc's right? You might want to research the model number because some of these actually do have an AGP port, but you have to modify the casing and/or the mobo to install a card.
Worth a look-see before you start over.

He mentioned in his initial post that's HP Pavilion 533w.  The specs for this one note integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, with up to 64 MB of shared video memory.

Parpunk, did you try to play these games on the computer you have?  As this computer is 5 years old, I would recommend a clean install of windows first, updating video driver, etc. and then trying to play.  Use older version of Mame.  Try different versions, even going back to one before 0.100 and see, if that's enough for you.  That would be the cheapest way.

hey guys, well im kinda wanting to go cheapest way possible really. like under $150.00 for computer tower and the stuff i need if possible. But i want it to be decent. as for the cooler fans and all that, thats all kind of jibberish to me at the moment. lol, ands thats the first ive heard of that. I never knew i had to get so much stuff to do this. Anyways im gonna check at my pawn shop for a newer computer tower with AGP slot in it, and 512 of ram. As for the other items ill have to get those at a later time. im just gonna can the HP pavilion idea, its actually my parents old computer and they areent sure if they wanna just give it away, so since i see its not gonna work, im not even gonna bother with it. Anyways thanks a ton! for all the info so far, i really appreciate it!

STOP!!!

Not wanting you to ignore some of the recommedation listed here, but for what you got and what U want, you already have most of it.  Don't spend more unless U need to.

The computer will run everything u listed and more so don't need to get another one.  You don't need to believe me or anyone, just load them up and see for yourself.

And to solve your problem on the tv out, just get a pci tv out card.  For the older type of cards, there's really no advantage or speed difference between agp or pci.  Heck, last month, I even throw in 3 radeon x1300 pci card into a system for a customer when the wanted to setup mutilple monitor to 7 display and they performed great.

Like what I have recommended before, just go ebay and spend 25 to 35 bucks and pickup a pci Radeon 7500/9000/9200/9250 with s-video out and U are good to go.  S-video is s-vide-, no matter if it's on pci, agp or even pci express, you are not going to get any more speed out of it.

But if you want do dump more on another pc, that's also your choice.
