I haven't been able to find the original thread on this.  Has there been anything new on this in the last few days? Since it's going to be a repro, for MAME couldn't this be mouse-hacked?

No, since it's an analog device, not optical, but Ram is also selling replacement pots for PC use.  You could also use the APAC or Dual-Strike hack.
