Logitech Steering

Anyoneh ave any info on using a standard PC steering wheel with MAME.  I bought a logitech momo steering wheel with pedals and the pedals don't do anything.  I can't seem to find any settings for these in mame.

I don't know if your's works differently, but I have a USB steering wheel that acts like an analog joystick.  This means that to use it in Mame, I have to use the "-joystick" switch ("mame outrun -joystick" to run Mame) (or check "joystick" in the controls tab of mame32).

i'll try this.  but the wheel itself works it's just the stupid pedals.. Also sirpoonga gave me a link to 1up's page regarding hacking a sidewinder dual strike pad.  Grabbed one off ebay for $15.

Make sure the wheel pedals work in the windows calibration screen!

Working from memory here.  Typically, a commercial wheel has the wheel set as Joystick 1 X-axis and the gas as Y-axis + and brake as Y-axis -.  You may need to find out what button in MAME corresponds to the GAS and then assing Joycode 1 Y-Axis + to it as well, etc.

You should not need a dual strike for Logitech pedals, however, if you pick up a Star Wars yoke???

Memory is close. ;)  Usually the gas is Y-axis - and brake is Y-axis +, if you have the pedals set as a "combined" or "composite" pedal axis.

The logitech momo probably can be set to have the pedals split.  In this case, they are usually Rx axis and Ry axis.

Note that most mame games are set up as a combined pedal axis (as "AD stick Y" input type), and are expecting the Y - and + axis.  You have to have the wheel set up as a combined pedal for these game, IIRC.

Some games in mame use the "Pedal" input type.  These games can use split pedals, but... the default inputs are buttons!  So you need to set the game pedal input to the axis (axes) your pedals use for them to work.  Test with the tab method on a game with the pedal type input to find what joy # and axis the pedals use, and then set up the ctrlr/yourfoldername/pedal.ini file so all games with the pedal type input will be set up correctly.  For more info on ctrlr files: http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mamecontrolini.htm

BTW, you set your pedal as split, mame will see the not pressed pedals as outputing negative numbers, a half pressed pedal as 0 and a full pressed pedal as positive.  So be carefull when mapping the pedals as mame can think you mean to map the not pressed pedal as the input instead of/in addition to the pressed pedal.  This also means, even if mapped correctly, mame won't see the pedal start being pressed until that half way point.
