So Tomorrow I'm going to pick up(hopefully) my first Cab.

I have one nagging question. Is it safe to lay it on it's back in the bed of my truck?

I did some searching and no one really said it's ok or not.  I did learn to check for loose items inside and remove them, that's a good tip.

I can stand it up but I have about an hour of freeway driving and feel it would be less exposed if it was laying down on it's back. 

The weather also might not cooperate, there's a chance of rain so I'm bringing tarps and plastic just in case(and industrial pallet wrap).  It might be easier to cover it if it's laying down.

I'd appreciate any tips you guys might have as well. Like if I have to stand it up what's the best way to secure it to prevent damage.

That is exactly how I transport my cabinets...no room to stand em up with a shell...

Usually if I have only one cabinet, I put it on its back.  I use ratchet straps and try to use at least two of them, secured from different places on the truck bed. In case one of them fails, you still got the other one securing the cabinet to the bed of your truck.

It depends heavily on how the CRT is mounted inside.  Standing straight up is the only position you know it was designed for.  I understand your hesitation so just check out the insides before you leave.

I agree...make SURE the monitor isn't just sitting in there...but actually BOLTED down.

EDIT: Hell,  while you are at it,  make sure that EVERYTHING is bolted down and that there isn't any loose debris inside that can cause damage.

Personally, i've never strapped down my cabinet,  just dropped it in to the back,  closed the gate,  shut my shell door and was on my way.   That said,  I also drive VERY carefully when I have a cabinet in back.

BUT,  if you have a strap handy,  it sure wouldn't hurt.

No problem! As long is nothing is loose inside they will be fine. The cab on the right (a Zaxxon that was converted to a Twin Eagle) later drove 2 hours in the rain wrapped in a tarp to get it to my buddies house. It stayed dry and fired right up.
