Another ANOTHER good find???
« on: February 22, 2007, 11:50:42 pm »
I saw this bad boy for sale and suprisingly (sarcasm?) didn't get any competition in obtaining it.  Works fully and had paid for and dropped off for only $30.  Needs some restoration work to be sure but I wanted to find out if this pong era discrete game is worth even fixing up other than the novelty of doing it?

Sure is a funky cab though.  I get confused looking at all the control options on that CP.

Sweet, 1975!!!  Looks like it's very rare and pics are needed:

You should definitely add some pics to the KLOV entry. Good luck fixing that thing if it doesn't fire up. Your odds of finding support are very slim.

Edit: Just reread and saw that it is full working. Hell yeah restore that thing. Looks like it could be touched up pretty easily.

Yep, fired up fine - my kids even played it for a while...  of course, if I had noticed the sheathing to the power cable was as bad as it was I would have taped it up before letting them play but what can you do sometimes?

Doh!   :censored:

The wood overlay that goes around the base I figured would cost the most to replace unless that can be patched.  Other than that, a little wood filler, pushing out the CP where it looks like someone punched it, and cleaning / painting.  No decals, it's all painted on (maybe that's normal in the older cabs, I haven't seen any real ones in so long).

Can T-Molding be pulled out and reinserted or will that be stressing the joint it came from too much?  Would be easier to pull it out while painting and place it back in upside down I'd figure if I didn't get new T-Molding.

I think it's a great find.

I believe you can get wood grain laminate at Lowes. Proabably cost you $40-$50 for a sheet.

I'll bet that 30 year old T-molding will crumble into pieces if you take it out.  I'd just get new t-molding.

There is a flyer on Ebay for this game.  Perhaps you would want to add it to your collection?  Think there are 4 available $4 each:

$30 and working, cool find.  Clean that bad boy up, restore it and send some pics to KLOV.  Save the History.

No kidding, same here.  Do you guys just constantly scour the craigslist for your area to find deals like this?  Someone please post a tutorial on scoring cheap arcade games.  ;D

I check craigslist and a few other LOCAL free classified websites at least 4 to 5 times a week.   I am not going to get much of a deal on ebay as I live in a pretty low population area and shipping costs kill any deal to be had.   The key to success is to find cabinets LOCALLY.

Yeah, got this cab in AZ (East valley, you can come over if you want to engage in the exciting 1 button play of this bad boy cab).

I scan craigslist pretty often and look for stuff, sometimes the deals are killer.  Saw a Capcom Impress sold for $250 one time and it killed me to miss that one (someone in Florida got it of all places, it's gotta take a lot of time to search MULTIPLE craigslist locations for deals)...  You win some, you lose most.  That's cool tho.

When you guys scan Craigslist do you use the search or are there certain categories you look in?

Mind you it hasn't worked for me yet, but I find that a simple craigslist search for the word "arcade" under the "all for sale/wanted" section I seem to get every relevant hit without too many extra listings.  I leave a tab on firefox on this search results screen and refresh it several times (compulsively) throughout the day.  I have seen several low cost lsitings and some way overpriced.  I started this technique after missing a free Killer Instinct cab in good shape but unknown operation by less than an hour.  Hopefully my obsession will pay off soon.

Great find by the way, it's cool to see these really unique machines being saved.  I don't know what I would do with something this unique, I don't have the room to be a collector.  I really just want a cab with nice art that I can leave basically stock except an add-on CP and computer inside.

Keep on searching.
Brian

I wonder what it would go for at auction if it was restored?

Kind of ironic, I just looked on Craigslist and think I found a deal. A Sega Shinobi and a Ms Pac. He wants $300 for each or $500 for both. I am going to check them out later if all goes well. Any advice or tips?

Go look...find as much wrong as possible and offer $400 for both.

Yes, and then ask him if he can deliver it.  Oh, how I love Craigslist lowballers.

That's just laminate, that's pretty easy to fix. The question is: would you prefer (or have to) remove all the old stuff, or could you use filler and glue over it? Then some new sheets of laminate, some glue, a good roller, and you're done.

Make sure to dry up the glue a little before applying the new laminate, that's the trick with curves.

Dunno if I'd call it a good find, but it's certainly a unique find and worthy of restoration.
