using vga arcade monitor for cab/ windows / display issues
« on: February 22, 2007, 09:48:14 pm »
I was thinking about getting a VGA arcade monitor for my cab. I was looking at this one

http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/491337vp2lg.htm

It says it has a 640 x 480 graphics mode. Does this mean it wont display other sizes or what ? I use 800 x 600 for my pc monitor. I'm worried that
windows wont look good at 640x 480. Would print even be legible. I thought that arcade VGA monitors were basically uncased PC monitors and that you could pick the resolution to be displayed.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

a vga monitor is not an arcade monitor. arcade monitors are ega or cga. vga is a computer monitor. you will have to lower your resolution setting to use that monitor.

If you are looking for an arcade monitor that goes up to 640x480 or 800x600, you should look into multisync arcade monitors.  FWIW, a regular arcade monitor can go up to 640x480 and sometimes 800x600 interlaced.  It causes some flicker in windows, but it doesn't really bother me (I don't spend much time in windows).
