WTB Windows MCE Usb IR remote receiver
« on: February 22, 2007, 08:08:24 pm »
If anyone has just the IR receiver that is working I am interested in purchasing it.  I don't need remote as I'll be using a Logitech Harmony 550 instead.

just a question:

if you're using the Media Center to it's full potential, why would you need the logitech remote?  the whole point of the media center is to combine all that crap into one machine.  no cd player, no dvd plater, no cable box...  just volume for your receiver, and power for your television, and then media center controls.

The logitech's strength is untangling the mess when you have a bunch of $#!t that counfuses the bejesus out of people.  with something as slick as media center, you'll only confuse the issue.

If i might suggest an alternative:

With that said, I may have a receiver to sell, as i no longer have use for it, unless i find that i can't get infrared senders any other way.  - - I just think you'd be happier with something else that may suit the application more.

Well there were a couple of reasons I wanted to go with the logitech.  First I got the 550 brand new for 64.99 which I was planning on getting one eventually anyway.  The way my satelite is setup I dont have a receiver in this room, its one of the dish dual turners.  There are a couple of components like my upcovert dvd player that I couldn't replace with a htpc without spending more than I wanted to.

So basically I was going to get the logitech remote no matter what for my other home theater stuff, and I found out you could program it with mce codes, so I thought I might as well use it instead of the mce remote.

I appreciate your link, and I did look at those after I saw them in pc magizine, but I just got he logitech for so cheap I couldn't pass it up.  If you do decide to sell the receiver let me know.

great price on the remote!

I checked my hauppauge 500 and it doesn't have ir blaster outputs like the hauppage 150, so i can't sell.

You may want to look into the ffdshow filter ($free$).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ffdshow
It may free up your upconverting dvd player for another room.  Combine that with My Dvds, and a 300 GB HD, and you can put all the DVDs in the other room with it.  :)

Anyways, if you have an XBOX 360, you may just want to get the remote and the receiver, as the remote works directly with the XBOX with no adapter/receiver.  You will also have to switch channels on the 360 and the media center if you use them in the same room.

Media center is extremely versitile, but with that comes a lot of setup confusion...  sorry if i'm only making it worse.  :)

no, but the hp one must have identical guts, as the hp remote works with the microsoft receiver.

Well I've bid a couple of times, and right after I did so I was outbid.  So I'm afraid one of the buyers has a bot or something setup.

Anyway Still looking for this in case I dont win the ebay bid.
