Need to verify power supply stuff for jpac install
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:29:14 pm »
OK .. getting ready to install my jpac into a wwf midway cab (mk, nbajam, etc. style)

Here is a picture of the power supply(s) ..  Its sort of wierd .. it seems like the power for the secondary power supply that powers the game board is fed from the isolation transformer ? ? ?  strange .. but in any event I think all I have to do is pull the plug from the second PS and be on my way .. (the red ?)

Anyone care to help me verify this?  (oh, and is there any way to tell if my coin door sends 5v or 12v?  There is a warning about 12v coindoors on the JPAC install page ..)

If you haven't already, make sure to read all this: http://www.ultimarc.com/jpac2.html

The warning about the 12v coin door only applies if the arcade power supply is active, and the jamma harness is placed on the Jpac backwards.  The Jpac is designed so where 12v, 5v, etc. leads are not accepted from the jamma harness if it is put on correctly; however, if the harness is placed backwards onto the Jpac, it will receive these damaging volts, ruining the JPac. That is why it is advised that no arcade Power supply is running while you are operating the Jpac.

All that should be correct, if not someone will correct me.  That is my understanding of it anyway.

Also, if you haven't done a Jamma to Mame conversion before, I would advise caution.  For my cabinet, I had to go through a lot of hoops that I didn't think I would have too.  People on this board helped me figure it out, I am sure they will help you also.

Just as it is,

Thanks!

It appears there is power going to the coin door straight from the main PS.  I believe the warning is,  despite plugging the jpac in backwards, you could stil have an issue w/ blowing the jpac if the coindoor is sending back 12v to the jamma harness vs 5v ..

Anyone else care to comment?

I think the power to the coin door refers more to the coin counter circuit or for any doors set up for a powered coin acceptor or bill acceptor/stacker. The only power you should have going to the coin door is for your door lights, which should be 5vDC or 6.3vAC depending on how your cab is wired.

I have this same question/issue..

Ive left my power supply hooked up as my Jamma Harness is slotted and numbered, and the ROMS work fine..

However the original Rampart 2 player controls seem to route or share leads with the 1player/2player buttons which route through the coin door.

So to save having to rewire all the buttons, and to have use of my coin doors for fun (or to bug my friends for their quarters  :P ) Id like to hook the coin door back up ( I disconnected it from the harness before installing the JPAC for exactly the reason listed in the main thread)

At this point my joysticks and action button works fine, but I have no 2nd or 3rd button control. From what I can tell, its wired correctly to the harness, burt they are deactivated via the coin door being unhooked..

Mine is not a fancy door with lights. But it does have a test switch on it..

Any ideas?

Is there a way for me to possibly hook up my harness to the original Jamma board and put a mulitmeter on the coinbox somewhere to generate a voltage reading?

There's a power cord going into your power supply.  It has the same end as a computer power supply.  Unplug it.  End of worries.
