Another NOOB question
« on: February 21, 2007, 12:12:01 am »
I just got my USB 3" Happs trackball.  I haven't built my CP yet (be prepared for many ?'s regarding wiring) but I want to test out the trackball.  I plugged it in my USB port and I was able to navigate the screen and through GameEx FE using the trackball so I thought all was well.  However, when I tried to play Golden Tee 2001 I couldn't use the trackball.  How do I get Mame to recognize the trackball is plugged in?

Still doesn't work.  I'm new to Mame & not sure how to setup using USB trackball.  Under default game properties<controllers I ENABLED MOUSE INPUT.  I could use the mouse but not the trackball.  Then I also ENABLED MOUSE under default game properties<controller mapping and I still cannot use the trackball.  What am I doing wrong?

Mice are handled like joysticks: each mouse is separate from each other.  Your trackball is probably mouse 2 (or higher) & thus defaulting to player 2 (or higher).  So remap (in-game, tab).  More info on remapping at mameFAQ h05 & h03.

here's a newbie answer.

Got download mala, install it, point mame.exe to it.  Say yes to all those question/etc.  Now that U have it setup, click on the config button that next to the mame.exe location field.  It should bring up the mame config in a NICE GUI (windows look), GOTO the controller tab, PLACE a check on the 'Enable mouse input" bock and click OK.

Enjoy!!!!

He is already using mame32 by the way he is using a file menu. No need to go thru MALA to change things

I'd do what rebelscum suggested.

Go into the game, press tab and go into inputs.  Where it says analog x, press enter (it should turn yellow or something) and then spin the trackball to the left or right quickly.  It will register as Mouse 2, Mouse 3, etc.. so you'll know which mouse is assigned to your trackball.  Do the same with the analog Y, exit and return to game.  It should work fine.

Seems to work.  Now how do I adjust the trackball speed?  Is there any way?

roll it slower...just joking; in-game press tab and then select analog controls- you can adjust speed there.

Thanks.  What are the suggested settings for Golden Tee?
