Did Hanano Joystick send me the wrong Joystick?
« on: February 19, 2007, 11:37:53 am »
So today my Hanano Joystick arrives.

Here is a picture of what I was supposedly buying, the Hanano Joystick SE:

Now here is a picture of what I actually got:

My thoughts (from looking at it):

+ I like that it came with the trackball, that saved me probably like $60 of buying one separate and lookes wider that pictured so might be more comfortable for 2 players.

- I didnt like that the look was very simple, it was not a nice purple with the logo and colored buttoms on the side as the website picture it, just a plian black finish? that dissapointed me.

Delete this thread.

Pop out the trackball.

Send them a picture of the joystick sans trackball.  Throw a fit that they sent you a defective unit.

Get replacement of what you actually ordered, make them pay to ship the defective one back.

Keep trackball.

I take it honesty is always your policy.  ;)

Did you get that for the $99.95 that they sell the Hotrod SE for?  If so, I'd say you got a good deal.

I've found, with very few exceptions, that sellers involved in coin-op are some of the biggest clowns around.

I can't order anything without getting the wrong parts, broken parts, defective crap.  It doesn't matter if it's the ONLY thing they sell, they'll manage to screw it up.

And it's always a big surprise when I complain about it.  Never had a problem before.  Blah blah blah.

I ordered 10 pushbuttons the other day.  Seller sends me 9.  I just started laughing.  Nothing's changed.  :D

This guy looks like he got some piece of junk that was laying on the floor in the storeroom.

Uh?  It looks like he got a HOTROD sans paint,  but with a friggin' trackball!  I'd take the trackball over paint any day.   Hell,  drop $30 and get a CPO then you have a CUSTOM looking Hotrod WITH trackball for less than you would have spent for the Hotrod and then a separate trackball.

This guy evidently knows "clowns" when he sees them...

I like the black color much better than the ugly purple with the huge logo slapped right on it in the middle ...... my opinion ....

I just got a Hotrod, but I got the one in the first picture.  I want *my* trackball!

How is it working for yoU?  I'm having minor problems with mine getting no response or stuck keys, it doesn't happen very often, just enough to be annoying.  If you (or other Hotrod owners) have the same problem, please let me know how you fixed it.  I almost just want to get a keywiz or IPAC and throw it in there.  Other than that, it's great (for my first arcade controller AND for the money, IMO).

i only tested it failry quickly to make sure it works, but Im gonna test it further today.

Have you used yours for oder Emulators? how is it working for Neo Geo, NES, SNES, Genesis etc for you???

also is there a way to exit a game thru the joystick instead of the keyboard?

I haven't done a lot of NES stuff, but it just feels weird.  Not un responsive or unplayable, just...weird.  I need either the original pad or my good ol' Advantage.  You're not supposed to hear clicking when you play an NES game.  It just feels un-natural.  Probably the same way playing arcade games does using a game pad or keyboard....

I think the only way to exit a game is if your emulator (or maybe your front end?) lets you assign the exit key.  The HotRod is not programmable within itself, meaning it will always send "CNTL" when you hit that fire button, no matter what program is running.  But if you tell the emulator that "CNTL" means EXIT, then you're in business.

The esc key is on the hotrod circuit board.   All you have to do is wire it up. This can be difficult as the pins are covered by the connector but have not wires connected.

The last row of pins are not all wired on the interface.
Connector 4

4-1 "x" [p1 btn 6]
4-2 "[" [p2 btn 6]
4-3 ESC [not wired] (QUIT)
4-4 ENTER [not wired] (unused)
4-5 TAB [not wired] (menu)
4-6 F1 [not wired] (???)
4-7 F2 [not wired] (Service Mode)
4-8 p [not wired] (Pause)
