SF2 cab update

I got the cab home last night and realized It says SF2 Championship Edition Turbo Hyper Fighting on the Marquee but the Side art says only SF2 Champ Ed and upon further review the board says only SF2. Is there a difference? Was it just a marketing ploy? Also when I turned on the cab the monitor came on for a couple seconds showed a red screen then went blank. The Marquee lights up but there is no sound. I checked and there is 120v coming out of the transformer but the ps has no 12v or 5v coming out. Here is some info from the cab. There is a placard on the back that says it is from ROMSTAR by DYNAMO, model number 02800500. The Monitor says Phillips A48ABK054

The marquee and sideart would be correct. SFII Champion Edition was initially sold only as a dedicated cabinet (similar Dynamo cab, grey speckly artwork). Later it was sold as a kit to convert other cabs. Judging from the Romstar sticker (and the cab itself), yours would be a conversion. After CE was out for a short time, they released Turbo as an upgrade to CE boards. This is why they would have still had Champion Edition sideart.

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to identify which board you have.

I found a sticker in the bottom of the cab that says this is a WG19K7602. Definetly no power out of the PS. THe power supply is a Peter Chou.

replaced blown fuse in PS and it blew the fuse for the transformer. Replaced the transformer fuse and left out the ps fuse and it is back to where it was. hmmm

I will gladly default to someone who has much more experiance than I, but it sounds like you only have juice going to the monitor, but not to the board.

Wow, lucky dog!  I've been trying to find some plans for a SFII cab, or even better yet, an original to gut for my first attempt at a MAME cab, and you happened to find one locally for $40...

If you have a capacitance meter, check the caps on the PSU's main board and make sure you don't have any dead ones. Following that, if you have an IC Identifier, check that it reports the main power transistors properly.

Check all of the solder connections on the board and re-flow the solder on all of the pins. More often than not this will fix a lot of problems without doing anything else. Most of the monitor and PSU faults I fix fall into this catagory. I quite often do this before I even think about doing anything else.

If all of the above checks out, then you have a short circuit somewhere.... It's certainly a PSU Fault.

A at worst case a new PSU is very cheap.... about $40 USD at most. £25 GBP. Which makes it pointless repairing it if there are a lot of parts in a faulty condition.

The sticker you found in the bottom of the cab is a Wells & Gardner Monitor Part Number for a 19" K series monitor. It's possible that your cab has had a monitor change at some point.

I was thinking of just ordering a PS. I have no real test equipment other than a meter so checking all else is a no go. So are you sing it is not a WG?

If your monitor says "Phillips" on it then I'll guess that was on the tube.....

It probably means you have a W&G Monitor Chassis using a Phillips Tube. That's quite common. Hantarex use Phillips tubes as well.

I'd guess you probably do have the original WG monitor, but monitors are easy to swap out if they have problems, so you never know. If you want to know for sure, compare against diagrams in the manual for the K7000 series of monitors. Here's a quick link:

If it were me I'd definitely replace the power supply. They're fairly cheap and you won't have to keep worrying about it.

I checked the Main PC Board Layout against that of the one in the manual and they match. Also the numbers on the board match that of the one in there as well. Whew, now I definitely now I have a none working WG19K7602 in this case.

Sorry? How do you work that out???  I think you're getting a bit confused here. It's your power supply that's failed not nessesarily the monitor or the monitor board. There's probably nothing wrong with the monitor.

Until you get the power supply to the game board working properly you won't get anything on the monitor. Take this ONE step at a time. If you have no 5v or 12v coming out of the power supply then fix that first.

Sorry , that was misleading. I was really just trying to point out that I know which monitor is in this none working cab. I realize that it has 120V in from the transformer and that it also needs all the video inputs from the ROM PCB but it is receiving power from the dead PS. The next thing is to get a working PS.

When I bought my SFII Dynamo cab...the manual was on the very bottom inside the cab...I might be able to find it for ya if interested.  I don't need it.

  I got the PS in today and the cab works like a champ; earlier this week I took out the Marquee cause it was looking bad. I noticed it had a plastic yellowing film on it. 30 minutes with a scraper and it now looks great. Now I need to clean it.
