Comments on Imperial Betson's 3" refurbished trackballs ?
« on: April 06, 2003, 01:17:33 pm »
Does someone have any comments about the Betson Imperial 3" refurbished trackball?  Since those are cheap at $30.00, I was thinking about getting me one for my next panel.  I'd go for a Happ, but my Minister of Finances (read: wife) checks the budget..., so I have to stay cheap and order parts on a very long time frame...

In a previous post, I was told that the Happ 3" trackball mounting plate works with the Betson.  I am wondering also if Oscar's trackball harness and USB mouse interface work with the Betson's.  I was going to e-mail Kelsey with that question, but I figured that an answer in here would help others in the same situation than me.

Regular arcade trackballs have a standard connector so Oscars trackball harness and interface should work with either Happs or Betson trackballs.  I would verify this when ordering.

I have an imp/betson 3"  refurb tball.. . I am using a happs mounting plate and it worked perfect (note I'm using the kind where you put the carriage bolts through the top of the plate)

I had contacted bob roberts  and he said his t-ball mounting plate would work with either the imperial betson or the happs t-balls.... as the arcade industry standardized the mounting of the Tballs....

You can of course ask kelsey if his particular pre-hacked usb mouse works with the imperial betson, but it shoudl absolutlely work fine.   I currently have a ps/2 mouse hacked to my imperial betson refurb...

I'm pretty happy with my refurb... although I may at some point put on new bearings and a new ball just to maximize my wiz (I can't get enough wiz....) Mind you, I have decent wiz, now... but I want uber-wiz action.... (does that make any sense whatsoever?)... so they were used, but are cleaned up to near-new appearence... my rollers were fine... my ball had a few speckles on it but was clean and fairly bright white...

*shrug* sorry for the ramble but that's my thoughts on the subject....

Yes, the OSCAR pre-hack will work fine with the trackball.

As for the trackball itself, it's a good product if you get a good one. It seems to me that there are big quality control tolerances for all trackball units. I've seen good and bad units from every maker. A friend of mine took the betson guts and put them in an old Wico casing because it fit better in his new panel. My friends and I never noticed the difference.

By the way, has anyone tried the trackball on the new anniversary edition centipede/millipede cabinet? It is AMAZING. I don't know how it is made but I would love to get inside one. It feels like the ball is floating in oil. Exceptional.
