Joysticks used in NBA JAM TE
« on: February 15, 2007, 11:54:26 pm »
Specifically, what joysticks were used in NBA JAM Tournament Edition and what color were they?  The pics at KLOV show 2 blue and 2 red bat handled joysticks, are these the original colors as originally shipped from Midway?  Or are the pics at KLOV wrong?  (there are numerous games that have pics of conversion cabs for them...)  I'm trying to get sticks to best match the originals, would Happ competitions be the closest stick and/or best option?

Thanks,
Rick

When you're wondering what REALLY came with a cab the most official source is to look for flyers. The flyer for both NBA JAM and TE show P1 & P2 with blue sticks, P3 & P4 with red sticks.

I'm not positive of the type of joystick, but since almost everything coming out at the time used Happ Ultimates (including the Mortal Kombats), I'd guess that's what was used. The Ultimates aren't really looked at too favorably though. Personally I'd put Competitions on there. You can still get red and blue knobs for them and I really like the ones that came on my Primal Rage cab. They've seen plenty of abuse over the years and still respond flawlessly.

Found a link to Retroblast's review of the Ultimates which even shows comparisons to Competitions:

I'm not sure this is entirely fair to completely trash these sticks as, like I said, they were pretty much the default joystick for fighters.

Thanks for the info - I'll remember about the flyers....

I suggested the competitions due to the seeming bad press the ultimates have gotten here.  I'll go with the competitions - I was mainly concerned about the colors...
