Required buttons for a 4-player control panel?
« on: February 11, 2007, 12:22:00 pm »
I've been searching the forums for a while and I can't seem to find the answer to this (but I know others must have asked this before me).  What are the required buttons for a 4-player control panel (really, how many buttons for player 3 and 4)?

I have seen many example 4 player control panels in the project announcements forum, and many of them have 6-7 buttons for the 3rd and 4th player, but I was pretty sure no 3 and 4 player games used that many (I thought it was either 3 or 4 buttons needed).  Can anyone confirm this?

This panel is not for me, I'm building it for a friend (I personally don't like the 4 player panels, too much going on, but he's convinced it's the way to go).  I can only think of a handful of 4 player games that even exist, so I'm not sure if there are some games that will use all 6-7 buttons for player 3 and 4 that I'm missing, so I thought I better ask before I get too far into planning the layout for his control panel.

why does the slickstick have 7 buttons for players 3 and 4?   are there any games that would ever use those buttons?  or does it do that just to be fancy?

I also don't like how angled P3 and P4 are on the SlickStick... I can only imagine it makes it somewhat difficult to play at those player positions.

the reason 3 and 4 have 7 buttons is so that when your playing 2 player on some games you can use the middle 2 controllers and if your playing another type of game you can use the outer controls without losing buttons.

what game would require you to stand at different locations on the cp?   the only thing i could get from it is if the players wanted to stand further apart.

What games actually use 4 buttons for player 3 and 4?

You'll need 5 for Guilty Gear Isuka.  Much fun with 4 players!
