House of the Dead not XP compatible?
« on: February 09, 2007, 12:11:58 pm »
Hey guys I ordered a copy of House of the Dead.  I could of sworn the amazon seller said it was for 95, 98, and NT.  I got the CD from the guy and it said windows 95 and 98.  I tried to run the setup.exe anyway and a message popped up saying not NT compatible or something like that.  If it would atleast let me install it I could do the win95/98 compatiblity mode, but to no avail?

Does your copy of House of the Dead work on XP??? If so how did you get it to work?

I got it to work just fine on Windows XP SP2 using the following two suggestions from the FAQs.

The same method also worked for a couple other programs from XPLOSIV that were not designed for XP.

This did do the trick.  It played fine, but the gun didn't work like it should till I downloaded the USB fix thing for the Act-Labs Gun.  But I tell you what...I took this game off my system.  It sucks.  Just not as fun as part 2 and part 3.  I don't think I will ever play that game it blows so bad.

it wouldn't work so i got the old 98 out and it still wouldn't work!!!

and as it turn out half the files were in the wrong place SO i copied them all to the HDD and re aranged them after about a hour managed to install it went to play it and WOW what  a shocking game nothing like the second one and the third one i have played in the local arcade and that rules!!

If you think version 3 is good, then you're going to be blown away when they finally release version 4 for the PC. We have it in the arcade where I work and it's a damned fine game that takes a lot of money.

Yes version 4 have not seen it in real life, but seen pics and it looks great.  I definately can't wait for that thing to come out on PC.  When do you think they will release it.

Also if you want HOTD to work before you double click on the THOTDRUN.exe or whatever the setup file is.  Explore the contents of the CD.  Rightclick on the file and co to compatibility mode.  Pick Win98/ME compatible then click apply then ok.  Then run the exe to install the game.  After that run the game a couple of times with the CD in the tray.  Then he game will be installed.  However to get it to work with the light gun you will need to install the usb2 compatibility patch.  then read the special instructions on the patch update site for HOTD to make sure the game will work correctly.  Cause what you must do is set p1 to keyboard and p2 to keyboard in the options of HOTD.  I think the game was just utter crap though.  So I took it off.  I will prolly sell it on eBay
