Remote Controled keyboard
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:24:17 pm »
Guys,

For a Slotcar track related project I do need to have a remote control connected to a few of the keys on a keyboard.

Is this in anyway possible??

Thanks

I love slotcars, I don't know if I can be of any help but can you elaborate more on what you're doing?

Wow, do they still make slot cars?  I used to love those things.

I'm not sure the keyboard is the right hack though.  IIRC the more pressure you applied to the controller the faster the car went.  The keyboard is more of an on/off thing.

Maybe you can find a racing pedal and hack that.

Guys,

Our track timer is controlled by the keyboard. When a car is ending up in a non reachable place, the race director is cutting the track power by pressing the spacebar. The car(s) can then be picked up. To put the power back on, the spacebar is pressed again.

Some times when racing and there is not enough turn marshalls, the Race Director has to do his part marshalling. Then when a track call is needed, the Race Director must run for the keyboard to cut the power. This will take some time and might ruin the cars.

So, what I need is some sort of remote button acting like the spacebar.

For those of who like to know what the track look's like, here's our website: http://www.amrc.no/Index2.htm
In the menu on the left side, look under "Klubbens Baner" and klick on "vår nye King". there is also a link to a English summary in the right menu (near the top). We are operating as a club (not a commercial Raceway), and have done so for over 30 years.

Thanks

:notworthy: That is taking slot car racing to a totally new level.  Those are huge tracks even your portable track is nothing to sneeze at.  Have you thought of using a presentation clicker?  I think that they have a good range and act like clicking the space bar for Power Point presentations.

If you still want a keyboard hack, go with a Wireless keyboard and then just gut it, wire a button to the correct pins on the controler , wire up the batteries and then just house it all in as small a case as you can hold comfortably in one hand.

It sounds like you might need a lot of range depending on where the guy with the "clicker" happens to be. If thats the case go with a bluetooth keyboard.
