Illuminated Cab Pics!
« on: April 04, 2003, 04:18:39 am »
Show em suckas! I have searched through the sea of broken links that is the Examples page on this board and have seen very few. If you, or some site you have seen has a unique illuminated cab, post em! LED's, Rope lighting, Tube lighting, Special effects...I am curious as to how others are using it (if at all). I kinda want that 70's porno feeling to my room when my cab is done.

Good effect CustomArcade.

How did you get that circular pattern on the plastic?  Did the christmas ornament do it alone or do you use colored focused light sources onto the ball?

Very interested in the actual physical arrangement.

HAHAH...thats awesome! I have an 8 inch disco ball somewhere, and my grandfather has a huge one. He also has a jukebox with that kind of lighting. HEHE,  any other things people have seen anywhere? I am drawing up the lighting for my cab, and will post a pic soon.

It is Fairly Easy The lights are laid out in a pattern similar to a star. The Control Board varies the intensity and all that. There is a cover Over the lights of plastic http://home.indy.rr.com/voodoomachine/images/MVC-909F.JPG The plastic has a diamond pattern cut into that gives it the apperance of flashing squares. As far as where I got the color organ I have had it since I ws 13 or so, It got forgotten about in my mom's attic until I found it and took it out of its old shell and mounted it in the cab. There are several companies on the web that sell Color Organs (google it).

Stay tuned cuz I am about to add the final over the top touches. :)

Laminating the cabinet with pink faux fur?

I'm not even joking, you SO need to do that!   8)

I've got some illumination going on with my cab HERE.  I'm considering adding a LED banner light on top to display the currently running game in the future.

One tip: lose the loud obnoxious music on your site!  I *HATE* sites that have music, especially when it triggers *every friggin time* you jump back to the main page!  Some of us are listening to our own music while surfing, and there's nothing in the world as annoying as having your soundcard taken over by some looping midi crap, or a .wav of someone yelling out of the blue at 3am.

Most of the time, if there's music on a site, I'll just leave after a couple links rather than put up with it.  Even worse,  if it's a site that was actually interesting, I have to now turn off the sound on my PC so I can surf it without being blasted every time I click a link.  No website should have music or sound unless it's done low-key and tied to a flash-driven menu, but then, I hate flash sites too...  :P

On my current project I ditched the coin door because I never used it on any of my previous cabs, it was pretty much there just for looks and some semblance of an authentic cab.  In place of the coin door I am putting a piece of plexi and I installed red cold cathodes in the base of my cabinet for a PC case-mod look.  Here's a few pics of how it looks so far:

HEHE..Music isnt there when you first go to the site, but then if you access a page then go back it is there. I like your CP. IMO you need to slap one of these on there.

Sweet idea Oscar!! Kinda like a second marquee. Im flirting with the idea of a rotating marquee up top with 3 seperate marquees. There would be 3 buttons at the top side of the cab. Next, Previous, and Rotate.

Here's an idea: rotating monitors.  I know what you're thinking, "it's been done", but I have something else in mind....  Imagine 3 monitors mounted on a vertical carousel, one horizontal, one vertical, and a vector monitor.  Hey, stop that laughing!  I'm serious here!!  I don't care if the cab is 6 feet deep!  >:(

Then maybe a cab that converts into a pinball machine.. like Transformers :)

Being serious, though, I would just put your top marquee bracket on a continuous hinge so you can unlatch it and swap out relatively quickly (I may do this on my JAMMA project), if you really wanted to do that.. should be snug, others have done this I believe..

LOL!  Sure, why not.  The wife already calls the basement "The Batcave" because of all the computers and monitors that are set up everywhere.  I might as well include a spotlight for the finishing touch.   ;)
