Does anyone have a config that I can use or would recommend?
« on: January 31, 2007, 03:50:06 pm »
I have a K7400 and have been running AdvanceMame via DOS.  I was never able to really get all of my resolutions set quite right, but it was tolerable.  Now with the demise of AdvanceMame, I'm trying to figure out the best way to re-do my box.

With the current setup, I am using a Radeon 9200, but I also have an ArcadeVGA.  I can install either Windows 98 or XP.

I'm willing to purchase a different video card if it means that someone has a similar setup and I can just use a copy of their config.  I've always had a real problem in the past getting the resolution and sizing exactly right and didn't know if some of the newer video changes in Mame would make this job any easier.

Thanks!

I still have one of the original ArcadeVGA cards based off of the 7200 I think.  Will those settings still work with it?

I've now also just gotten a hold of an FX5200 and I'm trying to figure out which would be the best card to use with my K7400; the old ArcadeVGA, the FX5200, or the 9200.

Yep they should work fine as long as you are using a recent version of MAME (v0.108 or above).

I finally got around to working on this.

Got XP installed and the ArcadeVGA driver.  Since the spec sheet for the K7400 says that the resolution is 640 x 200, would it be best to set the Windows resolution to 640 x 288 or 640 x 480 assuming it doesn't look too small or flicker too much?

Thanks!

I do 640x480 interlaced on my arcade monitor with the ArcadeVGA.  The ArcadeVGA supposedly also supports 800x600 on arcade monitors, although it is quite a bit overscanned when I try it on my monitor.

Now what did I screw up...

I've got Windows set to 640 x 480, made sure that mame.ini had the settings listed earlier, and then ran avres.  In avres, I picked the following options: single screen, 60 hz only, proportional, horizontal, and stretch interlace.

Now when I run Puckman or 1942 via the command line Mame, the top and bottom of the white box that surrounds the initial disclaimer/game info screen is off the top and bottom of the screen.  Shrinking the height of the screen via the monitor controls doesn't bring it back.  How do I fix that?

Thanks!

I haven't figured that one out yet either.  Have you tried manually setting all the available resolutions to see if you can find one that works?  For now, I've resigned to the fact that I have to use hardware stretch (bleh) on some vertical games.  This is one of the reasons I want to look into a multisync monitor, although I'm not sure it will give better results.  You may want to try posting in the monitor forum.
