I just picked up a brand new in the package (but discontinued) Creative Zen 1GB player, with FM radio and MP3 recorder for only $50 shipped off eBay.

Why buy used when you can get a deal like that for a new one with no cooties on it?

Unless your looking for one filled with music. . .

i second the zen.  i got one free from freecycle and only had to fix the sound port.  the zen micro has a solder problem with the phone port so either you can solder it back on or use paper to hold it down.

mine is the 5 gb and it has a fm tuner, voice recorder, can record radio, and i like an ipod but the size of a cell phone folded in half.  the down side is mine is orange but i plan on customizing it since it backlights the buttons blue.

and the battery is good at 12 hours but it gets used since the zen is constantly in hibernation mode so i take it out whenever im not using it.

thats mine not sure about the one CykoMF has but i think radioshack had a 2gb for around 60 not sure if they still do.

nice about the shuffles lol stupid apple.

thats a good idea cept he wants something with a screen.  all the cd players ive seen have only the skip buttons but the mp3 player has the screen to sort through otherwise you need to memorize 120 song list.

I've got a rio s30s that i've used for about a year, then upgraded to a iriver clix.  the rio has 64mb internal and a 512mb sd card in it.  I know its less memory then you wanted, but you can buy a 1gig sd stick for 10 bucks.  I really dont know the cash value of this thing, but what might you have to trade if your interested.

My CD based mp3 player has a 2 or 3 row LCD screen you can use to navigate the songs.

I'm gonna hold out for an all in one solution that doesn't require me to buy additional flash cards.

thanks though.

I was just suggesting, wouldn't sell mine as it's perfect for me.
My wife was taking a liking to it so I had to buy her one also.

It's got a screen that scrolls the song name, artist info, etc...
Looks like this:

Not sure about your monitor, but on mine this is almost actual size.
(Slightly shorter & wider than a bic lighter)

Something else that's cool, the display is 'flippable'  so it's leftie friendly too!

Another mindless cow joining the heard that is the iPod generation...
I guess I'll just never understand the allure of it all.
:dunno:
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

What would you suggest for a mp3 player?  i dont like ipods at all (my 4th gen was free from a friend courtesy of his foolish sister for breaking it) and the only thing it has going for it is the video but what models/companies do you suggest?

i like my mirco zen mainly since it is not considered disposable.

What if he did research and actually CHOSE the nano..?  Seems an odd statement.  Isn't being 'anti-iPod' for no good (or stated) reason (which I often see) as mindless as buying nothing BUT iPods?

Not trying to start an argument.   Honestly curious.

jfunk <- iPod owner by educated choice...  :)

I don't remember insulting you.  I'd appreciate some common courtesy.  You don't have to agree with my purchase, but the insult is uncalled for.

It's also just an all out ignorant statement.

We've had 2 iplods in our house and I hate them, with good reasons tho.

I don't have anything against the folks who use em, but I do feel there are much better options available for a lot less money.

*WARNING*  :soapbox:

And actually I think the players are awesome to use and feel great in your hand. May your bank account have mercy on you when the battery dies though. Oh and better pay the extra $10 for the piece of plastic to put on the front so the screen will be visible in a few months.

And that crappy software they force you to use, my god! Using that is more of a punishment than anything else.  I've been making my own mp3's for well over 10 years now and have put great care into tagging the files and sorting them into the proper folders, etc. Import one of them albums into itunes and if screws all that work up, reorders the tracks how it wants them and tries to convert them into a different format. Bad dog, no biscuit!

Oh wait, don't forget to try this little trick. After you have you ipod set up, invite a friend over and plug their ipod into your computer. Click on some in-comprehensable message window and BAM! All their songs just got replaced with yours.  :laugh2:

Yeah, I guess I don't really need any more of that in my life.
Give me ANY drag and drop based flash player for $50-$100 and I'm good to go.

[/soapbox] :)

When i got my ipod it wouldnt turn off unless the battery was dead so i had to install some custom os like rockbox.

they are good but they have lousy support.
