Any use for a U360 absolute mouse map?
« on: January 31, 2007, 08:25:52 am »
As most will know, the UltraStik 360 can be used in "mouse pointer" mode which controls the mouse in the same way as a laptop center-keyboard pointer.
I am playing with a map which will enable the stick to work in absolute mouse mode, where the pointer follows the stick exactly. This will in effect emulate a light-gun but not sure if there is any real application for this. Any thoughts welcome.

Sounds like it would be useful if you think it works and feels ok to you.  It's one of those things where I'd have to try it to see if I can get the right feel out of it for myself, but I'd probably end up using it.

I do not own one, but it would be nice to be able to use it to navigate windows for a setup with out a trackball.  If one had a trackball, i dont see a need for that.  as you could use the trackball.

I think it would be a good idea.  if i remember there are a lot of cabs that do not have trackballs, and this would be nice.

Andy, remember that previous mouse firmware has a bug.

There is no bug as far as I am aware.
After upgrading, the first thing to do is "uninstall" the device in Device Manager and then let it re-detect. This is because the upgrade completely changes the characteristics of the device but leaves its USB ID unchanged. This is not something that would normally happen with a USB device so Windows does get a bit confused.
After that, you need to re-assign the correct joystick number (if not #1) and download a map.

I'd have to use it first of course, but it sounds like it has potential. The more flexible the better, that's the whole strength of the sticks right? :)

What I did:
1. Upgrade firmware to mouse_pointer
2. Restart Windows
3. Run Ultramap and program map
4. Play
If you say that I should uninstall device in Device Manager first I will check it tommorow. But if I first remove device in Device Manager, Ultramap doesn't see U360 and I can't upgrade firmware. Then maybe I should:
1. Upgrade firmware to mouse_pointer
2. Remove device in Device Manager
3. Remove U360 from USB
4. Restart Windows
5. Plug in U360 to USB
6. Run Ultramap and program U360
?
I think it will do nothing but I will check.

PS. With self-press all buttons at one time I have problem on 2 PCs. Kowal's PC is third. You must made chaotic moves using joystick to see how U360 self-press all buttons at one time.
