Touch screen monitor size
« on: January 30, 2007, 09:56:09 pm »
I posted this earlier in the monitor section and realized I posted in the wrong area. Please feel free to delete my other thread when I know it should be here.

Im looking to build a touch screen Jukebox interface for http://www.freeboxjukebox.com/

I constantly find used monitors for 15-inch on ebay, but they start cheap and bammm they go high.

I guess to my point. Is anybody using freeboxjukebox with a smaller screen? I'm trying to figure out what a realistic size would be other than 15-inch. Im constantly finding smaller than 15, but have no idea what it would look like or if it would be hard to use.

I'm assuming LCD 15-inch monitors are larger than 15-inch CRT. Is that true for monitor sizes and brands?

I have an 8" touchscreen and it is not great for some jukebox programs.  If the program or skin is designed for larger screens then the controls are to small to accurately hit with a finger.   It seems like an okay size in my car,  I guess, but for a home jukebox I'd rather use a 10" or a 14."

That program looks interesting, I may try it and build a new skin for my car, as I've hit brick wall when it comes to skinning a certain part of winamp :hissy:

Freeboxjukebox is a great app. Ive been very happy with it on my test machine, but well I want to go full blown Jukebox with it. So far its worked great on my p450, but whats stoping me is landing a touch screen.

The program mentioned above will work with a mouse or trackball, but well for the total experience I'd like to go touch screen.

I use a 14" panel and that is fine. I think really it is a case of buy the biggest you can afford really. The bigger the touch panel the easier it will be to use. You could get CRT touchscreen depending on what type of cab you want to build, they tend to be quite a lot cheaper.

I use a 14" overlay (ADD ON)  touchscreen from Magictouch with Freebox Jukebox
It works flawless. I too bought this on ?-Bay and got shorted, Wrong size
not the best condition, But I made it work because the guy stiffed me. Live and learn. The volume button is about the only problem I have, but I have learned to live with it. Freebox is one of the best jukebox programs going for touchscreen.

The new replacement volume button can be resized have you tried that. It's also more touchscreen friendly cause you can touch anywhere on the bar and it jumps to your finger. You don't need to drag now.

I use an 8" touch screen (800x600 resolution) with Freebox.  I have a hard time reading some Windows text, but everything in Freebox is clear and readable.  I couldn't be happier
