Question about blocking.....
« on: January 29, 2007, 11:17:27 pm »
Iv finally finished my cp version 1 most likely im so new that im sure theres lots of tinkering to come, my question is i bought a pre wired device off ebay and got all my buttons and so on and put it all togeather and bingo bango it works , but...... i was playing street fighter 2 and my 3 year old son was jus playing with the player 2 buttons and i had blocking, he would hold keys down and i couldnt press certian buttons, is there any way to test this and or fix it . Iv come to learn that the thing i bought must be a keyboard hack in a box and wired up already, i havnt had any stuck keys or ghost keys i dont think , should i jus break down and get the, ipac does that have any key blocking what so ever???

thanks for the help
ive found a new hobbie .

Personal opinion.... No! you should get a Keywiz... http://www.groovygamegear.com

I personally find them to be more reliable and easier to use, and no they have no key blocking issues, because they don't work on a key matrix. They work by constantly very rapidly scanning all of the inputs instead.

No, it sounds like a crap keyboard hack that he's been ripped off for.

To answer his question, no the Ipac does not suffer from key blocking.  The Keywiz is also a good solution.

Does the Keywiz also have the option to connect console controllers to it like the I-Pac?

These sellers make me so $%^$^%$ angry.  They are intentionally lying in the listings and say things like "No Blocking or Ghosting", when in fact these pre-wired abominations block like crazy.  This isn't just supposition either.  I actually bought one of these things to see if I could verify their claims (flushed ~$40 after shipping) as I suspected otherwise.

I got the very same result as the above individual.  Severe blocking.  I cracked the box open and found a gob of silicon that obviously had the world's cheapest keyboard chip embedded in it, and a bunch of wires in a matrix arrangement.  In other words, a "professionally" assembled keyboard hack, with all of the problems and frustration associated with them.

I wish there was a way to put an end to the lies in the listings so others don't get burned.  But it seems the only option is to mention the product by name in the negative feedback you leave if you were unfortunate enough to be taken by these con artists.

Sorry to hear they got you.

Ya the description does say now ghosting or blocking that's why i bought it , I was lazy i guess and a Mame virgin so I thought it would be the easiest way to start but I I'm a little wiser now , ya $40 down the crapper oh well live and learn. A couple more questions playing today iv found when playing my guys get stuck when I'm trying to move and i have to release the direction and repress the direction is that just my piece of crap keyboard hack or is that the way things work. Its just not as responsive as I hoped. The games that were doing it were xmen and NBA jam mostly cause your running up down and so on all the time. One last thing between the keywiz and the ipac what one should i choose the only thing is the ipac looks easy to wire but the key wiz looks like ide pins and I'm not sure how to wire that.

Thanks for all the responces Im learning.

Depends which version you choose!! The Keywiz ECO no solder version has an IDE cable connection.  The Keywiz MAX (see picture attached) has terminal blocks on it that you can connect to. You just need a screwdriver to connect your wires to those.

Even if you do go for the ECO version it's easy to connect your controls to. You just cut one end off an IDE cable and split the wires out from the ribbon to connect up. You get a pinout diagram with the keywiz.

The keywiz gives you more bangs for your buck.... Personally I think it's more reliable as well. But at the end of the day the choice is yours. They both work.
