Can't program IPac
« on: April 03, 2003, 09:57:10 pm »
Since I reinstalled win98, I am unable to program my ipac. It's setup USB, my keyboard is really plugged into the ps2 port, settings are correct in the ipac options. I've tried setting the timers all over the scale, both high, both low, opposite, in the middle, etc. but every time I get my keys mapped and click Program Ipac it flashes the lights and blinks and the progress bar moves along, but I always get FAILED (Page 1): Adjust download speed)

I have unplugged the usb and replugged it, both when powered and off, rebooted with it unplugged, but I can't get any different results

I'm considering going back to winXP since I got my new video card, and am wondering if this would remedy things, but would still like to know if there's a secret for 98

Thanks

That I have not.. yet

Also, before I reinstalled I had my keyboard into the pass-thru on the ipac(and now it's not) might that make a difference?

[edit]
Ok, hooked up ipac->ps2, keyboard to ipac and it programs just fine(command line and thru winipac). Had to reroute a few cords but it's all good. I wonder if it's a USB issue- what version does the ipac use?
Thanx

How old is the Ipac?  I seem to recall that the newest software for programming only works with newer Ipacs.   You'd have to ask Andy to be sure.

This is a related question:
Mine won't program with the winipac utility even through the PS/2 connection - Ipac is not that old, just last summer.
Would it program through DOS? I assume I need to boot to dos, not a dos-box (this correct?)

The on-the-fly programming worked, but I sort of broke the passthrough connector on the IPAC (d'oh!).

Jumper set right (to PS2)?
Options in winipac set right (PS2, or try autodetect)?

You can drop to a dos box, find the right directory (C:\progra~1\winipac maybe?) and type winipac mame.ipc or whatever you have your layout saved as, no need to reboot dos

There are a couple of bugs in WinIpac which Scott is looking at. They may be related.
If the IPC files are saved in a different directory from the program, strange things happen, and if the mouse is clicked during programming a failure occurs.
Scott has been away on vacation but is back now and a new version will be available soon.
