is this cheating?
« on: January 18, 2007, 07:24:52 pm »
i've been putting off my juke project since I have so many necessary house projects I need to get completed.  i was just checking the craigslist in my area and somone is selling an upright megatouch 6 in good shape for 250 obo. I haven't done the research on this yet, but I assume I would just need some sort of encoder and I'm in business.  am I missing a step? am i cheating?

Its only cheating if you think it is cheating..

my question would be - are you going to be satisfied with the final look of it?  What do you want it to do? and can you accomplish what you want with it?

My setup seems "ghetto" or "jimmy rigged" - but really it accomplished what I wanted.. loads of base - fairly cheap and easily converted if I need to..  once it was done - no one ever sees the inner workings and it sounds good  to me.. so fug em! ;)

Everyone has their own setup and style - my thoughts - choose a something that fits for you and your setup..

after that - no matter what everyone else thinks about your setup or what it looks like - if it fits for you .. then enjoy it!!

I was going to use a megatouch to make a cab.... I actually had 2 JPM Gamebox machines and i was going to use those. Any of those PC based arcade machines would make a great touchscreen jukebox. Just upgrade the PC inside and install XP and your choice of jukebox software and you are away. AFAIK The earlier megatouch machines didn't have a HD and worked off CD.

It's not cheating really it saving time :D

here's my bad day

I called the guy selling the megatouch and like my luck would have it, someone already scooped in and purchased the beast.

but there's a bright side to this (not really)
as i was searching greedbay i found a 15" touchscreen monitor and the high bid is $19 with an hour to go.  I put my maximum bid at $25, I'm a cheap sob and go to the auto parts store. I come home expecting to up my bid and with 20 minutes to go I rush outside to install the new car battery,  when I get back inside I find the auction just ended and my cheapness cost me the monitor, someone swooped in with a bid of $26.

Don't worry about it. Someone probably bid on it with 3 seconds left and they put in a maximum bid of $100 or something. Most likely $27 wasn't going to win it.

FWIW - I have a megatouch 5 and it doesn't have either, it runs only on roms on a dedicated board.  I don't know at what point they switched to CD or HD's...

Is that a bar top? The free standing machines like the XL run off CD's and the newer ones are Hard drive based.
