wiring up a 5th & 6th button to my gamebox
« on: January 18, 2007, 04:50:29 pm »
Probadly a dumb question but...My cabinet has 6 buttons per player (but only the 1st 4 are wired up). I've recently got a 400 in 1 gamebox and I was wondering how to connect the extra buttons to the gamebox. Would some kind of egde connector be required or is it just easier to buy an x arcade (the gamebox has a connection for a mouse & a keyboard). Thanks

It's not a dumb question as such....... However you didn't give us enough information to answer it.

What sort of cabinet is this?? are you talking about a JAMMA Cabinet?? What sort of Game Box is it ??? how are your buttons connected now?? Does it have a separate keyboard encoder or is it connected to a JAMMA edge connector?? What exactly are the inputs that you have on this game box?? who made it ?? did it come with a manual of any sort??

In order to ask a qustion on here you have to give us information that will help us to answer it.

Best Regards,

Got some pics of my arcade board hopefully this should help. My arcade cab is standard jamma, 6 buttons each player, but only 4 of them are wired up and I think they all go thru the jamma loom. (Any other games like soul edge or Marvel super heroes I've had a connecter from the board to use the extra buttons)

This is the board, a gamebox 400 in 1

I think this is a keyboard & mouse port

Is this the port were I could wire a connector up to the 5th & 6th buttons?

All games that required 6 buttons had a second wiring harness.

Commonly called a 'kick harness' as this was used for the 'kick' functions during the game.

Since the Gamebox is loaded with horizontal fighting games I am surprised it didn't come with an extra harness or somewhere to plug one in!

Are you sure you haven't overlooked something?

The only other place I can see you could insert a connector is here...

but I think thats probadly a comm port or something. Contacted the seller but they said I needed an edge connector and didn't sell it. Got it from http://www.videotronicsuk.com/ Shame cause I really wanted to play street fighter zero 3

didn't say. He was abit sketchy about the whole thing. Probably didn't know or it just doesn't support one.

I doubt that it doesn't support it.

Or is it a case of the Chinese mass producing them without thinking that far ahead?

I have emailed a supplier of these. Will post a response.

Here's the installation & operation manual for your Gamebox:

www.gamebox.cc/pdf/GAMEBOX_EN.pdf

Look at the Jamma connector pinout in the manual.

Not sure what you mean mate.  I have no idea about wiring or stuff :-[ Thinking of upgrading to the 100 in 1 board. Hopefully that will have somewhere to put a kick harness

You don't need an extra harness.

Have a look at the link Ken posted.

Buttons 4, 5, 6 are on the JAMMA loom. You just have to solder new wires to the edge connector and then to your buttons.

Do I solder the wires up to the jamma loom at 27 & 26 (looking at the picture theres something already wired in there)

or do I solder directly on the board at 26 & 27?

Also does the wire have to be a particular kind? Can I get it from any hardware store? Sorry for the noob questions Thanks

Never Never Never solder any wires directly to the board. Any wiring you need to do is with the wiring harness connector.
