"Ultimate Arcade II" cabinets
« on: January 18, 2007, 02:26:23 pm »
I have a friend that lives a couple hours away who finally decided he wants to make an arcade cabinet.  I have an older UAII cabinet that I built from plans which he likes, but he doesn't think he can do all the carpentry so he wants to buy the pre-cut melamine UAII kit that mameroom.com sells and get a blank control panel to layout himself.  However, it looks as though the design has changed since I built mine.  For one thing, the control panel 'shelf' is not sloped toward the player.  As far as I can tell it's parallel with the ground!  The control panels they sell are also not sloped, nor are slikstik's blank CPs.  Can anyone recommend either a different (but similar) kit or a control panel that will slant toward the player slightly?  Am I just crazy for thinking this is a horrible oversight?  I can't think of many arcade control panels that did not have a slight slope for comfort.

My brother ordered a slikstik and had some custom work done to it - I believe it comes sloped by default.

Hmmm interesting.  He forwarded me an email from slikstik stating that their control panels were not sloped.  Maybe they stopped sloping too.  It's a conspiracy!!

There are a few other cabinet makers out there.

Dream Authentics has four cabs.  The Excalibur looks like it has a sloped CP.

Gargantugame has two models as well.

The final manufacture is called "A Friend's Help"  ;)

Interesting indeed!

Well, as far as building cabinets go - modding the CP to be slopped wouldn't be too difficult. Maybe he would have the confidence to do that?

Uhmm doesn't it say that the control panel is sloped in the Product Specifications?

Sorry, should've mentioned he is after the larger 3/4 player panel (which also says it's sloped), but in kit form not plans.  I'm not sure why the mameroom guy said he couldn't slope it, something about his CNC machine not being able to make the cuts or something.  I'll have my friend ask the mameroom guy why the plans are sloped but not his kit.  If all else fails, he's just going to have to do it himself.  Thx.

I can see how it would be difficult to slope the 3-4 player panels with the base being constructed in a circular style with miter cuts,  panels with square base slope easily.   You will probably need to build your own design with a square or rectangle base...

Yeah I could see that being difficult too.  I'm really wondering why on earth they stopped making the shelf that the CP sits on sloped.  ???

The plans I bought from Ultimate Arcade for my 4 player unit I think there is a link of silks site, anyway the plans are designed with a slope which is nice. I just finished my box just have to drill holes. I forget the angle its set at off the top of my head but it felt just right sitting my wrists on it
