Now I KNOW gp2x is real. Have you not heard of it? Go to gp32x.com for emulators, DOOM, etc.

gp2x is awesome, it runs on linux... and there is a big community that makes stuff for it.

Hmm... can't really find alot about that black hawk thingy, exept that it's really small ^^;

I live in Taiwan and have tried these out. They had one on display running NES Contra, and the framerate was like 10FPS a second. I can't imagine what it would with SNES games, if they even offer them.

I've seen these at a local Computer show and I can definitely reiterate the last point: Avoid at all costs.

It's slow, clunky, and screams of cheap generic " it's obviously a no name brand" merchandise.

It only LOOKS sleek, trust me.

EDIT:  The Black hawk is another one of those cheapo units.

The GP2X on the other hand, is a legit device.  I've actually heard quite a bit about it, and it's very impressive.  It's capabilities are accurately represented, but the only thing it lacks is anything substantially "new"... not because of the device itself, but really because as a gaming device it has no real impressive third parties making any games for it..

Hello, new member here. I actually have a GP2X, ever since it first came out. I've always wanted a mame cab, but playing those older games on the handheld unit (and on my TV with the TV out) has convinced me I REALLY am serious about it. My wife also plays the GP2X sometimes, and she now wants a mame cab as well!

Anyways, GP2X is a great system with a great community behind it. I get nearly flawless gameplay from old DOS games like Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen, Ultima 7, Doom, Quake, Descent, Heretic, and most of the old Sierra games like Sam and Max, Monkey Island, Full Throttle, etc. Also play all my favorite console games like Genesis, SNES, NES, TG-16 (including CD games), as well as other handheld games like Lynx, Game Boy/GB color, Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket. The main draw for me though (especially lately) is perfect NeoGeo emulation (plays even the newer games like Rage of Dragons and Samurai Shodown 5), CPS2 emulation that is very playable and improving almost daily, and MAME (plays a somewhat small romset, but plays them well).

I know I am really bragging about the GP2X, but it is worthy.... excellent system! I highly recommend it.

Also as far as OrganicJerk's comment... it's true that there are no major companies deving for the GP2X at the moment, which is too bad. There are a few commercial games that have been released though, with a few more in the works. These are high quality games. Especially worthy of note is Vectar, which would almost certainly appeal to most of you on this board.
