Shorted I-PAC
« on: April 02, 2003, 11:51:33 pm »
I've got what appears to be a shorted input on my I-PAC. I noticed that player 2 right wasn't working. I found a loose ground wire on the joystick, figured that was the problem, and fixed it. But it still didn't work.

Finally, I tried the ctrl-alt-p test mode on the I-PAC. It's reporting that that input is shorted. I've tried running the test with the wire for that input removed from the I-PAC, and it still shows up shorted. I don't know what else to try. I've rebooted the I-PAC also, and that didn't help. I'm at a loss for what to try next. Do I just have a busted I-PAC?

I agree.  I asked him a bunch of questions he didn't even have to answer and he came right back.

Just though I would follow up and say that this is certainly the case.

An additional debugging tip for anyone who has a problem like this. I used a voltmeter to check the voltage between the 'stuck' input and ground. It was only about 0.99 volts versus the 4.8V that was present on the other inputs.

I emailed Andy, and he air mailed me a replacement microcontroller right away. I swapped out the bad one, and problem fixed! Can't ask for better service than that!
