Atari Cocktail Bezel
« on: January 16, 2007, 04:08:20 pm »
Does anyone have a good photo of an early 80's Atari style cocktail cabinet?  I am specifically looking for what the bezel looks like...and/or a shot of the cabinet with the lid opened...

THANKS!

I don't have an Atari bezel, but I do have one from a Pacman cocktail if a pic of it will help.

There are a few decent pics at KLOV. Asteriods, Centipede, Crystal Castles, and Missle Command all have pics of their cocktail cab versions on their entry pages. The larger of the two operator's manuals for Missile Command includes the manual including parts diagrams for the cocktail cab version.

Are you talking about the plexiglass shield with rounded corners or the cardboard black bezel?

I'm working on a Centipede cocktail. I've got new plexi pieces, but none of the 3 project machines I've got have the cardboard bezel.

It came to me that with the smoked plexiglass (w/rounded corners),  a bezel for around the monitor itself will likely not be necessary??  Is the glass dark enough to not require the bezel or maybe dark enough to get away with a black paper bezel for around the monitor glass?

I also need to replace the top glass.  I was thinking of just going to a glass shop with the original (that has scratches, etc) and asking them to cut me an identical piece.

Is it tempered?

AFAIK all early Atari bezels are cardboard. Smoked plexi would hide the lack of one somewhat, but you're probably still see the edges of the tube and mounting brackets.

All cocktail tops are tempered, to better support the wait of those distracting table dancers. ;)

Do all cocktails utilize the topglass?  It looks like the table would look pretty spiffy without the topglass,  but with slightly beveled smoked glass for the centerpiece.

With the smoked plexi, I think a homemade black posterboard / cardboard bezel would be fine.  I'm going that route.  As long as it is black and blocks the view / light it should do the job.

And, the originals were all tempered glass.

I can attest that without the glass, plus a nice brand new piece of smoked plexi, it DOES look damn nice. (But as mentioned, there are practical concerns)

Regarding the bezel, buy one from Arcadeshop. It does hide some things even with the smoked plexi.
