Well, I have a centipede cabinet and decided that I need more space in the control panel than that provided in the standard panel.

I looked around, and found that the Capcom Dynamo cabinets look a lot like the centipedes, and have an interesting control panel box.  I will be building a box following that design, and fitting it in the centipede cabinet.

Not sure what the best way to do this is, but here is what I have in mind:

1) Attach two 1/2" MDF sheets, and mark cutting guides.  (how do I attach these boards?)
2) Make a straight cut, all through both sheets (which have been joined).  Dunno if this is possible.  Should I just cut each part separately and THEN join?
3) Finished cut
4) Make a triangular wedge from remaining MDF and glue in place. Fill wedged surface with putty, and sand smooth

Does anybody have any other ideas?

depends on how "real" you want  it to look....
I have a generic cab that I mamed....
the control panel is like yours originally....
I replaced it with just a piece of wood....
not as complicated as your design....

(but I added a keyboard tray right beneath.....
since I'm using computer monitor and have a
wireless network card.... I can use it as computer
as much as mame....)

check out my pics....
(sorry.... geocities direct link doesn't work.... so, plz click...)

if that doesn't show...

then click on the jpg files...

good luck....

That is pretty close to what i want to achieve.  Although you seem to have nothing on the underside of the top panel.

I'll see how close I can get and post pics.  It might be a few weeks though.

there is a piece of wood on the underside so that you won't be able to reach in and mess with the wires....

but you're right... its not exactly like the original..... (partly because of my limited wood working skills....)
angle cuts are not easy to do (cos I have limited tools...)

good luck whichever way you decide to go....  ;D
and plz post pics when you're done...  ;D ;D

OK guys, I've made all the cuts.  Ready to put this thing together!

Does anyone have suggestions on how to do this?  Should I use glue, brackets, screws?  I'm trying to go for a smooth finish, so I'm leaning towards using wedges on the inside (additional ones), and strong glue.

Anyone?

Well, these are rough, and don't have any angles or anything.

The panel is 23.5" Wide, 9.5" from bezel to tip, and 9.5" high (from where it attaches to the hinge to where it hits the bezel)

I miss anything?

FYI:  Dynamo makes conversion kits for most of their cabs including larger, 4-player panels.  I sold one on e-bay not too long ago - you may want to call them.

Would you be interested in letting the original CP go?
If so let me know what the price would be.
thanks,

thanks,

I'm not sure I want to let go of the original CP.  Either way, someone drilled extra holes in it, to convert it to Double Dragon.  :(

After 20years I updated and rebuilt my control panel.  Really love the new one I built from CNC...
