I dont have any currently to offer but i would like to point out that you could always add a dvd drive later for around 20 dollars or so if need be.  Only mentioning it in case someone offers one without the drive you want.

i was going to say you could build one (wouldnt take more than one hour to put everything together and than maybe another hour to instal xp) though when i had to get a new copy of xp because my previous copy was a restore disc for my other computer i found a new copy for 80 shipped.  that was going to be the main thing stopping me from fixing my pc-either spend a fortune on xp or buy a whole new pc.

onboard video what if she wants to play quake 4? and will 20gigs be enough for mame?

ill see if anyone i know has one.

Thanks SM.

I've built computers in the past and I had considered that option.  However, once I factor in hopping for components, be it online or B&M, the time involved starts to creep up on you.

Ans as long as the thing will play Line Rider, she'll be happy!  ;D

It's the XP with COA that's going to be hardest to find.

Ok, maybe my expectations are high.  The listed specifications are really more like guidelines anyway.

Talk to me, people.  We'll work something out.

COA = Certificate of Authenticity.   In other words real copy of XP.

Their cheapest system is much more system than you want, but still less than $400, with monitor and a lot of times with a flat panel monitor at that.  and shell be able to use it for a couple years to come......  plus you get honest 1 year service/warranty as well....

I also checked dell before but i figured it wasnt going to be an option since it was more than he wanted.

For the specs he wants it seems impossible to find one in a store or most online retailers.  Everyone i know still uses their pcs in this range but there is always ebay.  i havent checked for prices there so im not sure otherwise the dell could be a possibility.

I'm not sure where you are located at somunny, but there's a guy here in atlanta who sells used IBM Netvistas on Craigslist:

     http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sys/250844837.html

Stats are:
P4 2.6
512 RAM
40 gig HD
XP pro
MS office
DVD
17 inch monitor (CRT)

He sells the 2.6 GHz models for 175, but I bought a 2.4 GHz model from him for $145. Works great, no DVD drive, but as was mentioned earlier they're so cheap to add, and he might even just swap one in. I talked to him for awhile the day I came to pick it up, and he just buys and sells and fixes office computers for a living. Anywho, you could probably talk him into shipping one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.  I'm in Arizona and I've been looking at similar adds on the local Craigslist.  I can relate with what people are saying about the specs that I'm looking for and availability.  These CL computers seem to be the ticket and at a price point I like.  :)
