Anyone know where to get a control panel for a candy cab?
« on: January 09, 2007, 02:13:08 am »
I just got a Candy 26 SNK cabinet, and I want to know if there is a place online that sells control panels for this style of cabinet. It seems to be easily removeable since It has standard phillips-style screws around it. Perhaps a Neo Geo control panel will fit it? I would like to be able to add 8-way bat-style sticks and classic style buttons (I really don't care much for the ball-style sticks and sanwa buttons). Picture of the control panel is in this post.

Thanx!

when i ripped my VS. City cab apart i took the control panel apart and it seemed to just be a piece of sheet metal. I am sure if you disassembled it you could find someone that would cut a piece of sheet metal for you... the rest is just graphics, lots of places to buy those online!

I wonder if I can use something other than metal (maybe wood so it would be easier to route holes)

if you used wood it would be MUCH thicker! the sheet metal is only about  1/8" thick.

anyways i have another CP that is made of metal. just get a 1 1/8" bi metal hole drill, it cuts through the metal nicely... even easier if you have access to a drill press. and mounting joysticks are a breeze, no routing, just drill 4 holes to hold the joystick, a 1 1/8" hole in the center and mount!

i am sure if you looked in your yellow pages you could find someone that would sell you a pre cut piece of sheet metal!

I would like to be able to not only drill holes for sticks, but also for buttons should I get another sheet of metal. Where can I get a bi-metal hole drill (no go on ebay)

You may not have clearance for Happ style buttons on that thing, Japanese buttons aren't nearly as tall. I'd take it off and test before you get too far into that.

I currently have Happ buttons in there (the picture is when it had the japanese buttons in there) and they fit fine. Reason I want another CP for it is so I can put different sticks and buttons, and change the position of where the buttons will go (I will probably salvage the existing 4 smaller japanese buttons and relocate them off of the CP itself).

I have seen some people use Lexan but I didn't like the feel of it, it was a little too flexi.

check your local yellow pages for a metal fabricator. You could probably get them to make you a pair of them for $50 and then sell the second one to pay for the first on Neo-geo.com
