good machine at a good price...

Well, after much debate, I've decided this machine is too good to MAME and I'll be building my own cabinet.

Why is it no one sells anything in East Texas? I would definitely buy it if i lived in WI or the freight wasn't so high. Maybe not for 300. More the 2-250 range

I don't remember the controls being so akward. Looks like a good cab, and I'd be interested if you were within driving distance of me.

SE WI.
Just outside of Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls to be exact

Edit:  I still haven't found a MAME eligible cabinet, so a partial trade could be worked out if you had one.

I'm not making any promises but that is really tempting.  That's one of my favorite games.  It has the 49 ways, right?

I'm in Oshkosh so it would be an easy drive...

Oshkosh is an easy drive.  I'm about 2 minutes off of US 41, so easy on/off.
And, yes, they are the 49 ways and work great.

I've posted some other threads on here, but basically I bought this to MAME it, and after finding this site, reading the manifesto, and spending countless hours playing the game, I just can't bear to gut it.  Truth be told, I spent $275 on it and would like to recoup that and pursue another cabinet to MAME or perhaps build my own.

Let me know.  I'll probably throw it up on Craigslist this weekend to try and stir up some action.

What type of games do you play?  Would you need trackball and more than 3 buttons?
It's pretty easy to convert a cabinet to play mame without modifying it.  It just depends on what your needs are.

I'd be all over MAMEing that sucker...not like it is a classic or anything.  Look at the size of the CP... and the straight up/down monitor is great for light guns...

I was going to do the standard 2 joys, 6 buttons each with a trackball in the middle.
I'm not sure why though, since I don't play fighter games I'm having a hard time justifying more than 4 buttons, but thought I'd build for maximum flexibility.
Maybe you guys are right and I should just MAME it and be done . . the CP does seem to be the ideal size.  Hmmmmmmmm . . decisions, decisions.

And you are right Frizzle, the monitor orientation and CP shape/size is what attracted me to the machine.

Upgrade to a 27" monitor... drop in 2 joys,  6 buttons,  a trackball and spinner and you are set...

Hell,  you could even keep the Arch Rivals theme instead of trying to make a MAME theme...

Maybe even come up with some custom Arch Rivals CP art to accomodate the new CP layout...

27"???  A 19" fits perfect with the current bezel.  You really think I can squeeze a 27" in there?
I do like the arch rivals theme . .hmm . . maybe somebody can vectorize the Nintendo box art to use as side art . .that'd be sweet.

I had to think about it.  As tempting as it is I don't have to room or funds right now.

However, if you do mame it (personally I am against it but it's your cabinet) I would be interested int he left over parts (like marquee, game board, possible 49 ways???).
I'd even save on shipping by picking it up on my way to Milwaukee.  I visit Milwaukee often.

I'd be tempted to keep that one whole.  I remember that game from way back.  I occasionally see the sideart available too.  It was similar to the NBA red/white/blue logo with a ball bouncing off the guy's head, and "Arch Rivals" text.

Unfortunately I couldn't find another MAME worthy machine, so this project has started.

SirPoonga . . .everything has been neatly and carefully disconnected and taken out of the cabinet if you are intereted.

Anybody else . . .this stuff is shipable, so make me an offer.  I've got the gameboard, some sort of sound card thing, an amplifier, the Marquee, the glass, the joysticks (49 ways), the CP, the monitor, the power supply, and a couple other boards that I don't know what they are.
I can take pics of everything

I you just need  a pot you can get that from an electronics store like digikey our mouser.

sewerrat - I am interested in the electronics, 49ways, and marquee.  Everything I need to make it work in a generic cabinet.

If it is a standard power supply I won't need that.  But they are cheap so I might as well.

I believe it is a standard 19" monitor, right?

Yep, standard 19" monitor.
All the wiring was kept together and disconnected, not cut, so it would be very easy to put back together.  All the connections with the exception of the pushbuttons had connectors/harnesses on them so it was very easy.
The monitor is bright and works great but has slight burn-in (primarily the scoreboard).
Shoot me a PM if interested.

Thanks
