Those DVI-I to Component Converters on Ebay
« on: January 05, 2007, 09:47:59 am »
Hi everybody,

I am new to the forum.  There is some very good information on this forum which helped alot.  Thanks.

I am almost finished with my cabinet.  I am in the process of connecting the TV to the PC.  My video card is an ATI 9550 w/DVI-I output and the TV is a Samsung w/ component input.  So, like many of you have recommended, I am in the market for a a DVI-I to component converter.  So here is my question:

On E-bay, there is someone selling a converter for dirt cheap (like $8 w/ shipping).  It is the gold one.  Has anyone used that one with a similar set-up?  Is it the same as some of the other ones out there such as the silver one on E-bay (for like $18 w/ shipping) or the more expensive ones from non-E-bay sites?

The link to the gold one is below.

Thanks in advance to the replies.

I don't know about that particular adapter, but I can tell you that monoprice.com (the seller) is probably the best place to get cables from.  So I imagine that it's a good quality item.

Seconded, MonoPrice kick ass in the cable dept. I've got a couple of similar (but obviously simpler) DVI -> HDMI adapters from them and they do their thing flawlessly.

If you go to newegg you can get the sapphire version of that adapter which is identical to the official ATi one for maybe 12 bucks. I got one and it's flawless. Good seller or not, I don't like to mess with non-official adapters.

I've gotten one of those.  They are swell.  No problems here with them.

Don't you have to own a ATI 9600+ to run component video via your DVI port on your card?
