Smartstrip in the UK?
« on: January 03, 2007, 04:53:02 pm »
I've seen the Smartstrip plug bank used in quite a few American MAME cabinets to prevent surging on powering-up.

If anyone doesn't know what I'm on about, it's a multiple plug socket allowing all of the components in a cabinet to be plugged in, but powers each device on with a slight delay to avoid blowing anything.

My searches in the UK have so far come up with nothing. Does anyone know if they are manufactured at all, or is it impossible because of the higher voltage UK power supply of 240v?

A few people have mentioned building them using some sort of relay and an ordinary plug bank, but to be honest I can't be bothered! If anyone knows where these can be bought, let me know!

Amazon.com and my understanding is they ship to the UK.  Bits limited (who Amazon gets them from) will also sell direct.  I just bought mine yesterday (though I am in the US, not UK).  Cheers and good luck!

These are also stocked by Maplin, if you've got one of those nearby.
