How does my Control Panel look?
« on: December 26, 2006, 01:40:26 am »
Heres what I 'sketched up' in google skecth up. I'm making a 'barcade' so I'm smooching 2p layers into a little space. Any suggestions to help me out?

player 1 and player 2 starts will be on the sides. I just want to know if that looks cramped. Obviously the squares are joystick platforms.

Don't I feel stupid. I shouldn't do these things at 2 in the morning while watching mythbusters.  :dizzy:

Is it upside down or are you planning on putting the joys on the right of the buttons?

Not having a good day? :dizzy:  If you flip things around so someone other than something from space can play it then it wouldn't be to bad.

Ok, I redid it while I was awake this time. I made the full cabinet based on the 'Happy Hour' plans to see if my laptop and montior would fit ok. The monitors a little to large, so I need to make the cabinet longer in the back, and a bit wider. Other wise, I think I'm ready to build it.

why are your joysticks ABOVE your buttons?

You seem to enjoy very odd joy/button layouts.  Mock those up on a piece of cardboard, because I seriously doubt you will enjoy playing with either of those layouts.  Both are far too awkward.

With a small bartop I would suggest avoiding having 2 player controls.

With a small bartop I would suggest avoiding having 2 player controls.

I'd like to do that, but I have all the buttons for 2 player, and prefer 2 player much more. I have made my newest design alot larger, with plenty of space inside, and a larger control panel.

Definately do a cardboard mock-up as Pointa stated.   You'll be kicking yourself if your joystick/button layout ergonmics are all outta wack!! Uncomfortable = NOFUN.   And dude, you've got bucklies having a  comfortable simultaneous 2-player game on a bartop.... unless the bartop is huge.... which almost negates the reason behind a bartop imo!!

Setting up 2 joys on a bartop is definately do-able though..  you can't go without Robotron or Karate Champ!!!!

Good luck on the project.

I agree... here is a pic of my CP. We can squeeze together to do some 2 player Mario or Joust but if you play a game like Street Fighter it'll shake the game like crazy. You need about 25" to get a comfy 2 player CP. If you build the CP in it's current form it'll be uncomfortable and you won't play it.

You could build a larger detached CP that will house the controls you want and be more comfortable.
