Console section
« on: December 24, 2006, 12:20:53 am »
I'd like to see inside the console section have individual sections designated to each console for all to comment in. XBOX, Nintendo, and Playstation. I think it is deserved to have a special section for each.

Anyone agree with this?

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but there are so many other dedicated console forums out there on the internet I don't really see it a good idea here..

The list of individual consoles would be too large. Not only are there those who like the old school consoles but then you'd have to factor in the next Gen consoles.

You'd also have to consider if each console would get its own forum or if it was done by manufacturer. For example would Nintendo be a subcategory? If so would you also need even more subcategories for each of the products?

And what consoles would be left out? just because a console isn't sold in stores doesn't mean it's retired. There may not be a whole lot of talk about the old systems but from time to time there are new topics started about them. Would the fact that a subcategory such as Atari, that isn't always as active mean that there is no use for that subcategory?

While it would be a great way to categorize each console and possibly reduce redundant questions, it would become a navigation headache.

but that's my $.02

It's fine the way it is, IMO.  It doesn't have enough traffic to need splitting up.

I was just thinking all the main consoles could have their own sub-section and the normal console section would be for all the rest.

Just an idea though.

I would like to click on the Nintendo part and just see Nintendo related topics.

I have to agree with the others that a monolithic Consoles area is the proper way to go at this time. I agree that we could sub-section the thing to death, and we'd never make anybody happy with the sections we do make. There are plenty of other forums out there more suited to handle higher traffic console talk. If anything, my suggestion would be to put a thread together that links to good forums on most of the major consoles (and possibly the obscure ones), and we'd sticky that. Thoughts?

I always put emphasis on arcade controls stuff here first vs. the "Other" areas. :)
