Centipede Blasphemy!
« on: December 21, 2006, 02:02:32 pm »
Alright...so last night I was poking around my newly operational verical cabinet when I came across Centipede.   I figured since it was a vertical game i'd take a gander at how it looked.

I started the game up and played...for about 3 levels...before I realized....

...I WAS PLAYING WITH MY SPINNER.   Oh!  The horror!

The vertical cabinet doesn't have a trackball so,  I figured "what the hell" and kept playing.   The dynamics of the game change slightly when playing with a spinner.  No longer do you have the vertical movement afforded by a trackball...so essentially,  if the centipede makes it to the bottom,  you are screwed and you just lost a life.

I played a single game last night with the spinner....and I was AMAZED at how well I did.  I did so well that I thought I may turn on the horizontal monitor to compare hiscores....

...well...let's just say that the vertical cabinet,  with the spinner,  has the best Centipede high score of the two cabinets...by about 20,000 points.

Tonight I MUST beat that score with the trackball or all life as you and I know it will come to an end...

This blasphemy must be dealt with...head on!

ARGH!

Well, only 2 degrees of freedom, vs 360.  Still, sounds neat.  I must say I hadn't even given it a thought, and I tend to think pretty outside.

Can you use a joystick to nudge up/down?

I guess I could use the joystick to nudge up and down...though it would be a bit of a pain in the ass nudging with a joystick,  firing with a button and using the spinner to control the side to side motion.  Plus that would only add to the evil that has already been done.

heretic.
Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.

Use a Push/Pull Spinner?

Well, you know, you could just use the joystick - which is defaulted in lieu of trackball.

Sounds like a HACK is order!

Hahahah.  Actually, I tried the spinner thing and it was worse.  Then I played a few times the old way and I ended up with one of my hightest scores!   All-in-all, though, I prefer Millipede.  More and cooler stuff.
