Perhaps I live in fantasy land... LEDWiz Question
« on: December 20, 2006, 03:28:38 pm »
When you boot up a computer, is there any way to add something into the load up process? I would love to be able to have my CP light up as soon as I start the computer. (I am using a LEDWiz). Unfortunatly that would need to be done through the bios, so I do not think that is a possibility, so I figured the next possible place would be the boot process. My fear is that because it is USB, it will not be operable yet. Anyway I was hoping someone would know how to light this thing up.

I don't see how you could get it to work until windows powers up.

I have LedWiz and MaLa Led Controllers.

LedWiz not in my cab....yet

As you know the LedWiz on Power up has the LEDS off

FYI
The MaLa H/W has the Lights on. So When I flick the power point all my Buttons lights up

It's not until MaLa is loaded that the Leds change to the appropriate setting (eg the buttons lit appropriately for the highlighted game)

So if it means that much to you?

So if you did that main chip replacement to turn the led-wiz into native mala hardware the lights would be on at startup right?

Loadman you are so funny. You are going to keep trying to chip away at me untill I convert huh?  ;D
I keep thinking little Monty Python skits... The Spanish Inquisition... No one expects the Spanish inquisition...Bring Me... The Comfy Chair. [gasp] not...THE COMFY CHAIR!!!

Still, I have to say nay. Nay! See, now I have said it. I am a proud user of Atomic and before long, I will grow up and get big and strong and will be a Atomic evangelist just as you are the MALA Evangelist, then we fly up on top roof tops and duke it out like in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and then someone will shoot poisen darts and I will probably get as that seems to be my luck, but...BUT!!! I WILL utter some very profound last words...so there.

No, no replacement chips. The thing works, I was just trying to trick it out just that much more, but it rocks as is.

Can you rig something up with one of Whammoed's new relay toys?  On power up, all the LEDs go bright, then once in windows, trigger it off?  You'd probably have to add a few additional parts to keep the dualing power sources from backfeeding each other, but let someone who knows their stuff detail out that portion.
Just a thought.

Hmmmm. Voltage from 2 different sources able to reach the same location sounds a little scary. I appreciate the offer, but I am not looking to blow it up and if one thing failed in the set up you could not only blow up the LEDs, but the Wiz and computer as well.

Yep...
All the lights,

But as you note it would then act as MaLa hardware not a Ledwiz
- Downside of that is no RGB or varying Led light levels...

It would be cool if Randy added a little section in the ROM code of the LEDWiz that had a few built in attract mode type routines. So when it powers up it starts a little attract routine. I think it would probably be hard and/or expensive thing to implement though.

Got another thought that may or may not work, but less chance of screwing it up and blowing up components.  What about just having a dedicated separate light source inside the CP (in addition to the led within each button).  Power on triggers the light to come on, then once your FE launches, the light goes out.  This assumes that the buttons/tb/etc would allow this secondary light source to bleed through.
Might not work, but it might.

Would it be possible to wire the LED wiz so the default was all lights on?  Of course, then you'd need to redo all your mapping to turn off the lights you aren't using (instead of turning on the lights you are using).  More food for thought.

My Christmas just got merrier, thanks to the Retroblast folks.  I won one of their drawings.  Woo hoo.

Hey since you will not be spending your money on arcade stuff seeing as you won that killer set, you can just buy it for me right?  ;D
