sort of sounds like they wanted to send you a panel they had, instead of making the one you ordered. No? "they wanted to offer me their updated layout which put the trackball buttons on the left instead of the right" I would have wanted the layout I ordered. (?)
Also, the cracked trackball, was it smashed due to insufficient packaging material, or during installation do you think?
No IMO, they said they were updating the panels to reflect the missle command button layout, buttons on the left. IMO it works out alot better. I doubt they could send me an existing panel anyways, my layout required the movement of the spinner, not something you could readily do to an existing panel. I believe a few buttons were shifted slightly as well to accomadate the changes.
The trackball itself wasn't smashed, just one of the Screw-posts was cracked. It was like that when I opened it(The parts were loose because I was using partially custom parts, specifically 49-ways with the GPWiz's). No idea whether or not it occured during shipping, as someone else stated, this thing was packed *tight*. It was no big deal, some minor creativity on my part and the whole thing was locked down.
I'd order from Slikstik again, my experience was good. As far as the product goes, A+++. My previous panel was a Hotrod-SE, and the difference in quality is spectactular. The Hotrod-SE shipped with fairly standard equipment, and worked like it was supposed to, but the covering on the wood was bubbled from day 1. The Slikstik came as requested, with nary a defect on the panel itself.
In fact, truth be told, I got more than I ordered, because the panel came with 2 sets of side button holes that I didn't order.
Only thing is, with the slikstik panels, the 49-ways don't fit right because they need the cable on the left.
While I'm on the subject of good experiences though, and I know the regular posters already know this, I'd say that Groovy Game Gear is by far the best company I've dealt with. Slikstik's product was great, but the entire order experience and the products themselves from GGG were beyond great.
