Modded game controller for elliptical?
« on: December 18, 2006, 03:24:26 pm »
The YMCA here just got a few of these in... tried one out, it's kind of fun for an exercise bike.

There has to be a way to get just the controller and mod it for use with an elliptical (which I do have already).

Hrm, maybe this should be in Projects, eventually.

I'm spec-ing this out in my head a bit.  If you wanted to do it simply, and I probably would, then any movement of the flywheel would equal the driving gas button press.  So, if you didn't need any type of speed or direction translation, you could use an optical encoder wheel right on the elliptical flywheel.   >:D

So, up next would be how to steer on an ellpitical.

I get the impression that the linked bike responds to leaning.

So the idea solution would probably involve at least two electric scales.

It does not respond to leaning and it does not lean.
