Pac Man Stick
« on: December 12, 2006, 03:45:43 pm »
Who makes a good Pac Man replica stick.  I'm making a bartop for my brother, and the stick needs the 'authentic' Pac Man feel.  Thanks!

Happ sells an original replacement. You can probably get it cheaper form Divemaster or Ponyboy on the Buy/Trade/Sell boad. I know you will save on shipping buying from them.

I also strongly recommend the Pacman Reunion Stick from Happ.... Alternatively for a good 4 Way Balltop try the Sanwa sticks they play very nicely.

Most bottles and jars contain at least twenty-five percent recycled Pacman.
And research indicates that Space Invaders are strongly attracted to people who have recently eaten meat pies.

Nothing feels authentic except the real deal.  The original stick has very short handle, a rubber centering grommet and leaf switches.  You're just not going to approximate that with a centering spring and clicky microswitches.

But if finding and refurbishing an original is out, then you can go with the Reunion- it'll have the short handle.  I think the Sanwa can be had with a fairly short handle as well.  Or you could go for a 4-way Wico and get the grommet and leafswitches covered, but the handle will be much taller and the throw longer.

I'd probably get the Reunion, it'll play fine and nobody but a hardcore joystick geek will notice or care about the clicky switches, plus it's got a textured red ball that looks closer to the original than the other sticks would.

If you don't mind buying used you can get pac man control panels (full size) and cocktail cp's for a reasonable price on ebay. I got one for around $25 with shipping.
