I have a GPWiz49 that's not currently attached to a 49-way joystick, so it's just being used as a gamepad controller.  However, it's registering that the joystick (that's not attached) is being pressed to the right (or up and right).   Is there any way to stop it from doing this and 'recenter' the joystick inputs without having a 49-way joystick attached?

Thanks

There may be an adjustment on your GPWiz49 to do this (I'm not familiar with the product), but if you use wires to pull all of the input lines (everything but power and ground - so pins 2-9) to ground, that is the signal 49 way joysticks use for "center".  If you want to be completely proper about it, chuck a 100 ohm resistor in there between ground and the bundle of all the inputs, but nobody will tell if you don't.

I'm sure you have figured this one out by now, but in case anyone else is wondering the same thing....

You can just ground the input labeled "1" on the board.  This is an "invalid pattern" and as such, centers the stick.  All inputs high (open) is a valid pattern for all the way up and all the way right, so that it why it looks this way when no stick is attached.

That being said, if you have no stick on the 49-way inputs, it wouldn't really matter where it was pointing.  Why is it a concern?  (curious :) )

I was/am having troubles with 'button 12' working in the MaLa front end. It activates, but won't do anything.  There doesn't seem to be any good reason that it's not working and I've not read anybody else complaining about the same thing so I was wondering if (for some reason) having the joystick "up and to the right" might be effecting MaLa Additionally, MaLa only reports it being "to the right", but my guess is that this must just be some MaLa 'bug' that nobody else has ever run into.  :dunno

Thanks for the reply Randy.
