CP wiring?
« on: December 07, 2006, 02:46:53 pm »
Hey all,

After having this bug in my keister for years to build a MAME cabinet, I finally decided to take the leap.

I ordered a CP top from Knievel (I really like his design), but I was wondering how you wire all of the buttons and joysticks? I have a Keywiz ECO and I know how the wiring works between the buttons and the Keywiz, I don't know if there is a preferred or standard mapping, though. I.e. which button goes to which input on the decoder. I suspect it doesn't really matter, as long as you keep track of the map. The controls are all mappable in software right?

Thanks for you input,

Allen

You are correct: the order really doesn't matter as you can map everything once connected. However, it will make your life easier if you take a little time and wire the controls to the listed standards. Mame and other emulators, if you choose to use them, will be easier to setup. Also, front ends will be already set to go as well. (Especially AtomicFE)   ;)

Check out the documentation to see the connections:

Look in the lower left for the default pinouts. I've had a Keywiz Eco for some time now, and it works flawlessly!

Encoders have a preset configuration that you can match your controls to for hassle free hook-up. In your case, the website has a little diagram to tell you which pin on the IDE header goes to what button.

It is very intuitive - p1Start input goes to your player one start button and so-on.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get deeper into it.
