Anybody with a TV Tuner card
« on: March 29, 2003, 01:36:54 pm »
Hello :)

I have had a TV Tuner for about a year.. it is a ATI TV Wonder PCI stand-alone card..

the bundled ATI viewing software was so-so.. quality wasn't as good as I had wanted..

recently I happened to stumble upon a link to alternate TV software..

http://www.dscaler.org

DScaler works great!!  A little more effort to configure.. as it is meant to handle many different types of TV Tuner cards..  image quality is MUCH better than the old software.. and there are more features to boot!

I have heard there are some problems with the ATI All in wonder cards.. so YMMV on those.. but the stand-alone works great!

It is fully navigable via keyboard.. but I do not think the keys are mappable.. so it may or may not work well on a cab with standard controls..

If you have a TV tuner.. do yourself a favor and check out http://www.dscaler.org, most excellent!

screenshot attached.. of course it doesn't do it justice since it's from motion video

It's a shame they can't add XMLTV for guides and make it more like MythTV (see screenshots) Good free Windows based PVR software is somthing we could all use!

Thanks for the heads up.  Tried it on my Hauppage and it gave me a clearer display.

What did you select for a tuner?  Cause I am not getting any channels in on my tv wonder.

See attached :)

In order to get channels.. pick Phillips NTSC.. then at the main menu hit the HOME key.. it is the shortcut to open the channel setup.. pick USA Cable (the first one) and check the box for keyed numbers... then go ahead and hit scan.. it should pick them all up...

pgup/pgdn to change channels

well After I did that.. I had video but no audio...  Go into the sound mixer setup.. and setup as below.. (except change yours to diff sound card if neccesary)

Then make sure the cd-audio isn't real low in volume control.. this worked for me.. oh.. and Audio-INput set as External..  let me know if this works for you!

Hehe.. yes I do believe i did install that cd-audio cable..  i probably have about five of those things laying around hehe.. saw a connector so blammo hooked it up :)  so much cleaner than external patch cables from one line-out to another line-in... sort of like pass-through VGA for stand-alone DVD decoder cards..

anyhow.. dscaler works great now.. picture comes in clearer than before and sound works..  have not tried recording anything yet though..

I have 1 also.  Few years old but it is a tv wonder also and the only way you can get sound on those (at least for my model) was to physically jumper them. Not with cd audio (which would be the ones inside) but on the outside. From the sound card out to the in on the TV wonder. I've used the card for a few years now and it works great
