add credit button to a coin door?
« on: December 05, 2006, 01:19:28 pm »
I have a full size dartboard with a coin door.  Since there is no free play option I would like to wire a credit button up, how do I do this?

Thanks
I b**ch. People listen!!

Drill hole, mount button, splice wires into wiring for one of the coin door switches. You can use any kind of momentary pushbutton( the ones at Radio shack can be pretty small and still look nice. Actually, you can use any kind of pushbutton. My top-gunner cabinet had a frikkin doorbell button mounted on the coin door when I got it.

So I just need to tap into the two wires on the bottom?  An connect them to a push button?

Yes.

On my machine, I wired a new coin switch in parallel with the existing one and set it up so pressing in the coin return plunger activates it so I didn't have to drill through my coin door.

That would probably be in your best interest too, considering your coin door looks brand new in the pic.  ;)

The first time I made a credit button, I used thick foam double-sided tape to hold the coin door closed, and took the lock mechanism out.  Then I found a button that fit the lock hole and used that.

The next time, I put the tiniest button RadioShack sells inside one of the coin return holes at the bottom of the door, so it was invisible from the outside, but you could just stick your finger in there and hit it.

Since then I've made the coin return buttons trip a switch, like Chris said.

I like this idea but not sure how to do it.  I was just going to drill a hole in the cabinet and wire that way but I like your idea better.

I like this idea. The tiny button at Radio Shack has like a 1/8" face diameter. All you have to do is tap a hole for it near the back corner of the coin return slot. Put your finger in there and register your credits.
I think I will do this one on my machines.
